How to replace a faulty intake air
temperature sensor in a 4th generation 2018 to 2023 Jeep Wrangler SUV.

This automotive
maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the "JL"
fourth generation (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 & 2023) Jeep Wrangler
SUV in cleaning or changing the intake air temperature (or "IAT") sensor for
the GME T4 Hurricane 2.0L turbocharged I4 engine. Owners of other Jeep, Dodge and RAM vehicles such as the Grand Cherokee, Compass, Renegade, Gladiator, Cherokee, Grand Wagoneer, Wagoneer, Charger, Challenger, Durango, RAM 1500, Promaster, 2500 and 3500 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A few symptoms of a dirty, failing or faulty IAT sensor include hard starting, hesitating, stalling, stumbling, loss of acceleration, reduced performance, misfires, knocking, rough idling, surging and reduced MPG (poor fuel economy). If you have an OBD2 scanner (also known as an OBDII scan tool), some of the IAT sensor related DTC (diagnostic trouble codes) you might see include P0098, P0110, P0111, P0112, P0113 and P0114. It may be possible to clean and reuse the old IAT sensor. I recommend using CRC Electronic Cleaner spray or you could instead use CRC MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor cleaning spray. The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) IAT sensor part number is Mopar 0514 9279AC (also known as 5149279AC or MOP-05149279AC). No tools are required to replace the sensor. The first two steps are to open the hood and then move to the driver (right) side of the engine bay. The IAT sensor is attached to the black plastic air intake tube just behind the A/C refrigerant information sticker. |

| Push in the release
tab on the grey plastic electrical connector before pulling it straight off
the base of the old IAT sensor. There is a plastic ridge on the sensor port attached to the air intake tube that keeps the sensor firmly in place. Carefully rotate the old sensor 1/4 turn in the counterclockwise direction. You will feel some resistance when the retaining clip makes contact with the raised ridge on the port. Try to avoid breaking the plastic retaining clip just in case you are able to clean and reuse the old sensor. |

| The OEM sensor had
a few numbers on it that included 279AC and 3129.
The Mopar part number is Mopar 0514 9279AC also known as 5149279AC or MOP-05149279AC. |

| To clean the old
sensor, gently spray it with CRC
Electronic Cleaner and allow it to air dry.
Do not use compressed air or forcibly shake the sensor to avoid damaging it. To install the cleaned or new sensor, reinsert it into the port attached to the air intake tube. Rotate the new sensor 1/4 turn in the clockwise direction to secure it into place. |

| Push the power plug
straight on to the base of the new sensor.
You should feel or hear the electrical connector "click" securely into place. Use an OBD2 scanner to clear any diagnostic trouble codes. To test the new sensor, start the engine and take the car for a short and cautious test drive. Be sure to record the sensor change in your vehicle's service records. For more,
