How to clean or change the mass air flow
sensor in an 8th generation 2018 to 2022 Toyota Camry with the 2.5L I4.

| This automotive
maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the XV70
eighth generation (2018, 2019 and probably also the 2020, 2021 & 2022 model
years) Toyota Camry sedan in cleaning or changing the MAF (mass air flow)
sensor attached to the air intake tube for the A25A-FKS 2.5 liter inline
four cylinder engine. Owners of other Toyota, Scion and Lexus vehicles such as the Avalon, Corolla, Prius, Yaris, Mirai, 86, Sienna, RAV4, Highlander, 4Runner, C-HR, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Tacoma, Tundra, Venza, Hilux, RX 350, IS 250, IS 350, CT 200H, GS 450h, GX 470, LX 470, UX 200, NX 300 and UX 250h may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The original OEM mass air flow sensor part number is Toyota 22204-75040. If you would like to try cleaning your sensor before purchasing a new one, use some CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner spray. The only tool needed to remove and replace the sensor is a Phillips head screwdriver. Some of the symptoms of a faulty MAF sensor include rough starting, stalling, hesitation, jerking, rough idling and a decrease in fuel efficiency (MPG). If you have an OBDII or OBD2 Scan Tool, some of the DTC (diagnostic trouble codes) that you may see include P0101, P0100, P0102 or P0103. |

 Disconnect Power Plug |
 Loosen Counterclockwise |
 Remove Second Screw |
| The first two steps
are to open the hood and then move to the right (driver) side of the engine
bay. The MAF sensor is attached to the black plastic air intake hose near the engine air filter box. Push in the release tab on the electrical connector before sliding it straight out of its socket. Remove the two screws that hold the sensor in place by turning them in the counterclockwise direction with a Phillips head screwdriver. |

| Set the two screws
aside in a safe place. Gently rotate the old sensor back and forth a few times to loosen it. Then pull the old sensor straight out of the air intake tube. |

 Spray With Cleaner |
| Inspect the old
sensor for any signs of damage or to see if it is covered in oil or soot. To clean the old sensor, spray it with some CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner. Avoid spraying the electrical contacts. Be sure to allow the sensor to fully dry before re-installing it. |

| The compatible
replacement OEM sensor part number is Toyota 22204-75040. Install the new sensor into the port in the air intake hose. Line up the screw holes in the sensor with their corresponding holes in the air intake hose. |

| Replace the two
screws by turning them in the clockwise direction with the Phillips head
screwdriver until they are snug. Try to avoid over tightening the screws to prevent from cracking the plastic MAF sensor housing. Push the electrical connector straight on to the new sensor until it clicks securely into place. Start the engine and check to see if the SES (service engine soon) or the CEL (check engine light) has turned off. If you have an OBDII Scanner, reset any MAF sensor related error codes.
