This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2018, 2019 and probably also the updated or "refreshed" 2020, 2021 and 2022 model years) GM Chevrolet Equinox SUV in changing the rear wiper blade on the back windshield window.

Owners of other General Motors vehicles from Chevy, Buick, GMC, Cadillac and Holden such as the Trax, Blazer, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, Cruze, Malibu, Impala, Camaro, Cascada, LaCrosse, Encore, Envision, Enclave, Regal, Canyon, Sierra, Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, Savana, XT4, XT5, XT6, Escalade, CTS, XTS, CT6, Astra, Commodore and Trailblazer may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The OEM rear wiper blade size in inches is 11".

The recommended replacement 11" wiper blade part number is the Anco 14C11 (also known as 14C-11).

A few other compatible aftermarket "hook-arm" connector type rear wiper blades with their part numbers include the following: Anco 31-12 (12"), Valeo 50011 (11"), Anco 91-12 (12") and Anco 30-11 (Winter 11").

Note - If you choose a larger 12" wiper blade, you may not be able to re-attach the black plastic trim cover.

No tools are required to remove and replace the rear wiper blade.

The first step is to gently pull out the base of the black plastic trim cover away from the back window (at the point where the wiper arm is attached to the motor assembly through the glass).

If you have trouble releasing the base of the black plastic trim cover, try gently wiggling it up and down while pulling it.

Black Plastic Hook
Once the larger base of the trim cover has been released, slide the cover over to the right (passenger) side of the vehicle.

You will feel the plastic hook on the back side of the trim cover release from the slot on the metal wiper blade assembly.

Set the trim cover aside in a safe place.

Push In Release Tab
Carefully lift the wiper arm off the back window.

Rotate the old wiper blade away from the wiper arm at a slight ange.

Locate the small black plastic release tab on the mounting bracket at the center of the old wiper blade.

Gently push in the release tab towards the metal wiper arm and hold it in place.

Old Blade - HT - 14
Slide the old wiper blade to the left (driver) side of the SUV to release the plastic mounting bracket from the hook at the end of the metal wiper arm.

Separate the old wiper blade from the wiper arm.

I recommend buying the Anco 14C11 11" rear wiper blade since it seems to be the original unit.

Note - If you choose a larger 12" wiper, you may not be able to re-attach the plastic trim cover.

The old blade on this 2018 Equinox was marked as H*T - 14 or HT-14.

The General Motors part number for the wiper blade is GM 84215609 and the previous part cross reference numbers are 22894225, 23398639 or 23308226.

Slide Mount Into Hook
Place a towel on the back window to protect the glass from being chipped, shattered, cracked or scratched just in case the metal wiper arm smacks down on to the window while you are replacing the blade.

Line up the plastic mounting bracket in the center of the new wiper blade with the metal hook at the end of the wiper arm.

Position the hook into the larger opening at the right (passenger) side of the new blade.

Slide the new wiper blade to the right until the plastic mounting bracket "clicks" securely into the metal hook.

New Wiper Blade Installed
Line up the black plastic hook on the back side of the trim cover with the large opening in the center of the new blade.

Push the cover on to the wiper assembly.

Slide the cover to the left (driver) side to secure the plastic hook.

Double check that the trim cover is securely attached.

For the best wiper performance, I recommend thoroughly cleaning off the back windshield and applying a window treatment product that will repel water from the glass such as Rain-X.

Be sure to record the blade change in your vehicle's service records.
