This automotive
maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the third
generation (2018, 2019 and probably also the face-lifted or updated 2020,
2021 and 2022 model years) GM Chevrolet Equinox SUV in changing a burnt out
fog light bulb located in the front bumper cover. Owners of other General Motors vehicles from Chevy, Buick, GMC, Cadillac and Holden such as the Trax, Blazer, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, Cruze, Malibu, Impala, Camaro, Cascada, LaCrosse, Encore, Envision, Enclave, Regal, Canyon, Sierra, Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, Savana, XT4, XT5, XT6, Escalade, CTS, XTS, CT6, Astra, Commodore and Trailblazer may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement halogen light bulb part number is H8 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, PIAA, Philips and Osram. If you would like to have brighter fog lights, install some H8 LED bulbs. The tools needed to access and replace the bulbs include a 7mm socket and a 1/4" drive ratchet. The first two steps are to move to the side of the SUV with the burnt out bulb and then look under the front bumper cover. Locate the triangular shaped black plastic access cover. It is secured in place by two attached plastic retaining clips and a single black metal screw. |

Loosen Counterclockwise |
Black Screw Removed |
Push In Tab - Open Cover |
Remove the screw by
turning it in the counterclockwise direction with a 7mm socket and a 1/4"
drive ratchet.
A short extension bar can make it easier to remove the screw. Set the screw aside in a safe place. Push in the two tabs on the retaining clips to release them. |

Access Cover Removed |
Fog Light - Top of Housing |
Reach Up To Light Bulb |
Set the access
panel aside in a safe place. The fog light bulb is located at the top of the light housing above the front turn signal light. Reach in through the opening on the underside of the front bumper cover. Go past the first bulb socket that you feel and continue up to the fog light bulb. |

1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Red Locking Tab |
Slide Out Red Lock Tab |
Rotate the base of
the old bulb 1/4 turn in the counterclockwise direction before pulling it
straight out of the housing. Slide the red lock tab away from the base of the old light bulb to unlock the electrical connector. |
||
Push Down Release Tab |
Old Light Bulb Removed |
Philips H8 LL Bulb |
Push in the release
tab on the electrical connector before sliding it straight off the base of
the old light bulb. The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) light bulb in this 2018 Equinox Premier was a Philips H8 LL. If you would like to have brighter fog lights, install some compatible replacement H8 LED bulbs. The LED bulbs also tend to last much longer before burning out. |

Re-Attach Power Plug |
Connector Click Into Place |
Slide In Red Lock Tab |
Try to avoid
touching the glass part of the new halogen bulb with your fingers or
anything greasy in the engine bay.
If you do get the new bulb dirty, wipe it clean with a paper towel and some rubbing alcohol. Push the electrical connector straight on to the base of the new bulb. You should feel or hear the power plug "click" securely into place. Slide the red lock tab in towards bulb to secure the electrical connector. |
||
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Re-Insert Plastic Clips |
Pop In Access Cover |
Carefully install
the new bulb into the housing and twist it 1/4 turn in the clockwise
direction to secure it into place. I'd recommend testing the new light bulb before you re-attach the access cover. To test the light bulb, turn on the headlights and then active the fog lights switch. Raise the black plastic access cover and line up the two black plastic retaining clips. Pop the access panel back into place. |

Spin In Metal Screw |
Tighten Clockwise |
New Fog Light Installed |
Tighten the screw
by turning it in the clockwise direction with the 7mm socket and the 1/4"
drive ratchet. Be sure to record the bulb change in your vehicle's service records. For more, please check out all of my
