This automotive
maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the ninth
generation 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 GM Chevrolet
Malibu in changing the windshield window wiper blades. The 9th generation Malibu was supposed to undergo a "facelift" in 2022 or 2023 and the refreshed vehicle may have continued being produced into the 2024 and 2025 model years but it will now apparently be discontinued after the 2023 model year. Owners of other General Motors vehicles from Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, GMC and Holden such as the Impala, Corvette, Bolt, Sonic, Spark, Express, Trax, TrailBlazer, Equinox, Traverse, Blazer, Tahoe, Suburban, Colorado, Silverado, Cruze, Volt, Camaro, Encore, Envision, Enclave, Regal, LaCrosse, Canyon, Sierra, Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, Savana, XT4, XT5, XT6, Escalade, CT4, CT5, CT6 and Commodore may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The OEM wiper blade sizes in inches are as follows: Driver Side 26" and Passenger Side 18". A few compatible replacement wiper blades with their part numbers are as follows: Bosch 26A & 18A, Rain-X 5079281-2 & Rain-X 5079275-2, Michelin 8526 & Michelin 8518 and Trico 25-260 & Trico 25-180. The only tool needed to remove and replace the wiper blades is a plastic pry bar tool or small flat head screwdriver. The first step is to lift the wiper arm off the windshield until it remains in the raised position by itself. Locate the rectangular shaped black plastic lock tab at the center of the old wiper blade. |

Pry Out Bottom Edge |
Swing Up Locking Tab |
Grasp Old Wiper Blade |
Insert the blade of
the plastic pry bar tool in between the bottom edge of the plastic lock tab
and the metal wiper arm. Swing out the lock tab out and away from the wiper arm. |
||
Pull Down Out of Hook |
Rotate Blade Perpendicular |
Lift Blade Off Arm |
Pull old wiper
blade down until the plastic mounting bracket slides out of the metal hook
at the end of the wiper arm. Rotate the old wiper blade until it is perpendicular to the wiper arm. Lift the old wiper blade off the end of the metal wiper arm. |

Towel - Protect Glass |
Metal Hook - Wiper Arm |
Line Up Blade & Arm |
Place a towel on
the windshield to protect the glass from being chipped, scratched, shattered
or cracked just in case the metal wiper arm smacks down on to the window
while you are replacing the blade. I recommend buying the Bosch 26A & 18A wiper blades since they have excellent reviews on Amazon. Orientate the new wiper blade with the rubber blade pointing away from the windshield. |
||
Pass Hook Through Hole |
Rotate Blade Parallel |
Pull Blade Up Into Hook |
Pass the metal hook
at the end of the wiper arm through the opening in the center of the new
wiper blade. Rotate the new wiper blade until it is parallel with the wiper arm. Pull the new wiper blade up until you feel the plastic mounting bracket "click" securely into the hook at the end of the wiper arm. |
||
Snap In Lock Tab |
Lower Arm To Window |
Wiper Blade Change Done |
Swing down the
black plastic locking tab and snap it back into place. Double check that the new wiper blade is securely attached. Gently lower the new wiper blade back down to the windshield. For the best wiper performance, thoroughly clean off the windshield and apply a window treatment product that will repel water from the glass such as Rain-X. Be sure to write down the blade change in your car's service records. Please check out all of the
