This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Mazda CX-9 SUV in changing the front windshield window wiper blades.

Owners of other Mazda vehicles such as the CX-5, CX-3, CX-30, MX-30, CX-8, Mazda8 (MPV), MX-5 Miata, Mazda2 (Demio), Mazda3 (Axela), Mazda6 (Atenza) and Mazda5 (Premacy) may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) wiper blade sizes in inches are as follows: Driver Side 24" and Passenger Side 18".

A few compatible replacement wiper blades with their part numbers include the following: Rain-X LWR2418 (24" & 18"), Aero 24" & 18", Silblade FB124 & Silblade FB118 and PIAA 97060 & PIAA 97045.

The only tool needed to detach the old wiper blades is either a flat head screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool.

The first step is to lift the wiper arm off the windshield until it remains in the raised position by itself.

Locate the small square black plastic button near the end of the metal wiper arm.

Use a flat head screwdriver or the plastic pry bar tool to gently push in the release button in the middle of the bracket at the end of the wiper arm.

Carefully slide the plastic mount at the center of the old wiper blade straight out of the bracket on the wiper arm.

Line Up New Wiper Blade
Place a towel on the windshield to protect the window from being cracked, chipped, scratched or shattered just in case the metal wiper arm smacks down on to the glass while you are changing the wiper blade.

Line up the new wiper blade with the end of the wiper arm.

New Blade Installed
Slide the plastic mount straight into the metal bracket.

You should feel or hear the retaining clip "click" securely into place.

Double check that the new wiper blade is securely attached to the wiper arm.

Gently lower the new wiper blade down to the windshield.

For the best wiper performance, I recommend thoroughly cleaning off the windshield and applying a window treatment product that will repel water from the glass such as Rain-X.

Don't forget to write down the wiper blade change in your SUV's service records.
