This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020) Kia Sorento SUV in opening the hood in order to access the engine bay and check the oil level, fill the windshield washer fluid or any other common procedure. Owners of other Kia, Hyundai and Genesis vehicles such as the Soul, Seltos, Sportage, Niro, Telluride, Forte, Rio, Optima, Stinger, Cadenza, K900, Sedona, Kona, Venue, Santa Fe, Elantra, Sonata, Accent, Veloster, Ioniq, Nexo, G70, G80 and G90 may also find these instructions to be helpful. The first step is to open the driver's door. Look below the dashboard near where the driver's left knee would reside while driving. You'll see the black plastic hood release lever on the trim panel. The release lever is located just to the left of the emergency / parking brake foot pedal. Firmly pull out the bottom of the lever until you hear the hood latch make a loud "POP" noise. Gently release the lever back to its resting position. |

Move to the front
of the SUV. The hood, or "bonnet" as they say in the U.K. or other parts of the world, should be slightly raised above the chrome trim around the black plastic grille. Insert your fingers in between the hood and the grille. You should be aiming for the area just above the letter "A" in the "KIA" emblem / logo on the grille. When you feel the tab sticking straight up off the latch release bar, slide it to the left. Hold the latch release bar over to the left with one hand. Carefully raise the hood with your other hand. |

When you are done
checking the oil level, brake fluid level, changing the engine air filter,
refilling the windshield washer fluid, changing a headlight bulb or any
other procedure, you can close the hood by carefully dropping it from about
12 inches up. Or you can carefully close the hood and then firmly push on it with two hands to engage the latch. Make sure the hood is fully closed before driving. Please
