2019 Sorento Glove Box
Open Glove Box - Empty

This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020) Kia Sorento SUV in changing a burnt out light bulb located in the glove box.

Owners of other Kia, Hyundai and Genesis vehicles such as the Soul, Seltos, Sportage, Niro, Telluride, Forte, Rio, Optima, Stinger, Cadenza, K900, Sedona, Kona, Venue, Santa Fe, Elantra, Sonata, Accent, Veloster, Ioniq, Nexo, G70, G80 and G90 may also find these instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement miniature wedge base light bulb part number is 2825 (also known as W5W).

If you would like to have a brighter glove box light, install a 2825 LED bulb. It will also last much longer before burning out.

The first two steps are to open the glove box and empty out the contents.

The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulb is a small flat head screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool.

Light Bulb Housing
Insert Screwdriver
Locate the small notch on the right side of the glove box light housing.

Insert the blade of the screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool into the notch.

Gently pry out the right side of the light housing to release the plastic retaining clip.

Pry Out Right Side
Light Housing Removed
Carefully remove the light housing from the ceiling of the glove box.
Push In Release Tab
Power Plug Detached
Push in the release tab on the electrical connector before sliding the power plug straight out of its socket.

If you trouble detaching the power plug from the light housing, try gently wiggling the connector back and forth while pulling it off.

Pry Off Rear Cover
Back Cover Removed
Use a small flat head screwdriver to gently pry off the black plastic cover on the back side of the light housing.

Try to avoid using excessive force. The rear cover should pop off relatively easily.

Set the rear cover aside in a safe place.

Push Out Old Bulb
Old Light Bulb Removed
Use the small flat head screwdriver or plastic trim panel removal tool to carefully push the base of the old light bulb out of the metal socket.

Avoid using excessive force to prevent from breaking the glass bulb.

The old bulb should pop out of the socket relatively easily.

OEM Part # W5W
Push In New Light Bulb
The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) light bulb part number in this 2019 Sorento was a "W5W" which is the same as the 2825.

Push a new number 2825 miniature wedge base light bulb straight into the socket.

If you would like to have a brighter glove box light, install a compatible replacement 2825 LED bulb.

Line Up Black Cover
Pop On Rear Cover
Line up the black plastic cover with the rear of the light housing.

Gently snap the rear cover back into place.

Push In Power Plug
Re-Insert Wires - Left
Push the electrical connector straight on to the base of the light housing.

You should feel or hear the power plug "click" securely into place.

The new light bulb should have turned on immediately after you pushed the power plug back into place.

If it didn't, try pressing the "Unlock" button on the key fob to re-activate the interior lights.

Tip - If you installed an LED bulb and it doesn't work, try removing it from the socket, rotating it 180 degrees and pushing it back into the socket. Some LED bulbs are "polarized" and will only work when the "+" positive and "-" negative electrical contacts are in the correct orientation.

Pop In Retaining Clip
Test New Light Bulb
Re-insert the wires and the left side of the housing back into the opening first.

Then gently snap in the retaining clip on the right side of the housing back into the opening in the ceiling of the glove box.

Make sure that the light housing is securely in place and every edge is flush with the glove box.

Don't forget to write down the bulb change in your vehicle's service records.
