This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the 4th generation (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 model years) Kia Optima sedan in changing a burnt out front turn signal light bulb located in the separate housing below the headlight assembly attached to the lower part of the front bumper cover.

Owners of other Kia, Hyundai or Genesis vehicles such as the Niro, Sportage, Sedona, Telluride, Sorento, Rio, Forte, Soul, K900, Cadenza, K5, Stinger, Tucson, Santa Fe, Kona, Palisade, Elantra, Sonata, Accent, Veloster, Ioniq, Nexo, Venue, G70, G80 and G90 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement bayonet style light bulb part number is 1156A or 1156NA which are available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, Bosch and Philips.

The owner's manual lists 2357NA as being the compatible front turn signal light bulb part number even though this 2019 Optima LX FE actually contained 1156A bulbs.

If you would like to have brighter and much longer lasting front turn signal lights, install some 1156A LED or 2357NA LED bulbs.

The tools needed to access and replace the bulbs include a small flat head screwdriver or a pop rivet removal tool and a 10mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet.

The first step is to turn the steering wheel all the way in the opposite direction of the burnt out front turn signal light bulb.

Turning the front wheels will create more working room in the wheel well in order to access the bulb through the plastic wheel well liner or "splash guard".

Test New Turn Signal
To test the new front turn signal light bulb, activate the hazard signals.

Tip - If you installed an LED bulb and it doesn't work, try removing the bulb from the socket, rotate it 180 degrees and push it back into the socket. Some LED bulbs are "polarized" and will only work when the "+" positive and "-" negative electrical contacts are in the correct orientation.

Be sure to write down the bulb change in your vehicle's service records.
