This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the third generation (2016, 2017, 2018 plus the refreshed
2019 & 2020 model years) Hyundai Tucson SUV in cleaning or
changing the engine air filter element for the Nu 2.0 liter GDI
inline four cylinder motor or the 1.6L Turbo I4. Owners of other Hyundai, Kia and Genesis vehicles such as the Santa Fe, Kona, Elantra, Sonata, Accent, Veloster, Ioniq, Nexo, G80, G90, Stinger, Rio, Forte, Optima, Cadenza, K900, Soul, Niro, Sportage, Sorento and Sedona may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. Two compatible replacement engine air filters with their part numbers include the following: EcoGard XA10426 and Premium Guard PA99097. No tools are needed to access and replace the filter. |

Right Locking Tab |
The first two steps
are to open the hood and then move to the right (driver) side of the engine
bay. The engine air filter box is located to the right of the engine cover, behind the driver side headlight housing and to the left of the fuse box. Open the top of the filter access door by pulling it out towards the front of the vehicle. Swing the filter access cover down and forward towards the 12V automotive battery. There are two grey plastic locking tabs on the front edge of the old air filter. Push the two grey locking tabs down to release the old air filter. |

Slide Out Old Air Filter |
Once the two locking tabs have been released, you can slide the old air filter straight out of the slot. | ||

Inspect Both Sides |
Clean With Vacuum |
Inspect both sides
of the old air filter. If the old filter is dark grey or black and clogged with dirt, dust, hair, leaves, insects, soot, pollen, sand and other debris, it should be replaced with a new element. The two compatible replacement engine air filter part numbers are EcoGard XA10426 and Premium Guard PA99097. If the old filter is relatively clean, just tap out the large debris and remove any fine dust with a vacuum cleaner. |

If your vacuum

the filter slot. Line up the new filter with the slot. The two grey locking tabs should be on the front of the filter and facing down. |
