This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2016, 2017, 2018 plus the face lifted 2019 and 2020 model years) Hyundai Tucson SUV in cleaning or changing the air conditioning system's cabin air filter element in the HVAC blower motor housing.

Owners of other Hyundai, Kia and Genesis vehicles such as the Santa Fe, Kona, Elantra, Sonata, Accent, Veloster, Ioniq, Nexo, G80, G90, Stinger, Rio, Forte, Optima, Cadenza, K900, Soul, Niro, Sportage, Sorento and Sedona may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A few compatible replacement cabin air filter part numbers are as follows: TYC 800205P, F1Auto FC97133-D1000 and Hyundai / Kia 97133 D3200.

No tools are needed to access and replace the filter.

The first two steps are to open the glove box and then empty out the contents such as the owner's manual, registration and huge stacks of fast food restaurant napkins.

Move to the right side of the glove box and locate the black plastic damper arm.

Firmly pull the damper arm off the two pronged mounting peg.

Then move to the inside of the glove box and locate the two round black plastic side stops.

Inspect both sides of the old air filter.

If the old filter is dark grey or black and clogged with dirt, dust, sand, hair, pollen, soot, insects, leaves, twigs and other debris, it should be replaced with a new element.

I recommend buying the TYC 800205P filter since it has excellent reviews on Amazon.

If the old filter is relatively clean, just tap out the large debris and remove any fine dust with a vacuum cleaner.

If your vacuum has a crevice attachment, carefully clean out any leaves or debris in the filter slot.
