Pry Out Light Housing
This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the 2nd generation (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019 model years) Kia Soul in changing a burnt out vanity mirror light bulb located in the housing attached to the headliner above the sun visor (or upgrading both of them to brighter LED bulbs).

Owners of other Kia, Hyundai or Genesis vehicles such as the Niro, Sportage, Sedona, Telluride, Sorento, Rio, Forte, Optima, K900, Cadenza, Stinger, Tucson, Santa Fe, Kona, Palisade, Elantra, Sonata, Accent, Veloster, Ioniq, Nexo, Venue, G70, G80 and G90 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement aftermarket light bulb is part number DE3175.

If you would like to have brighter vanity lights, install some DE3175 LED bulbs.

The only tool needed to access and replace the bulbs is a small flat head screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool.

The first step is to lower the sun visor.

To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces or tearing the headliner fabric, I recommend either covering the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or instead use a plastic pry bar tool.

Insert the blade of the screwdriver in between the plastic light housing and the fabric headliner near the "ON / OFF" switch.

Pull the light housing out of the opening in the headliner.

Push in the release tab on black plastic electrical connector before sliding it straight off the light housing.

Pull Out Old Light Bulb
If the old light bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it.

The bulb might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Gently pull back the metal electrical contact to release the old light bulb from the socket.

New Light Bulb Installed
The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) light bulb was marked as part number KHA12V5W 28D02C (12 volts, 5 watts).

Carefully push the new DE3175 festoon style light bulb straight into the socket.

Make sure the new bulb is securely installed into the socket.

If you would like to have brighter vanity lights that will also last a lot longer before burning out, install some compatible replacement DE3175 LED bulbs.

Re-Insert Wires First
Push the power plug straight on to the base of the light housing.

You should feel or hear the electrical connector "click" securely into place.

I recommend testing the new light bulb before re-installing the housing into the headliner.

Tip - If you installed an LED bulb and it doesn't work, try removing it from the socket, rotating it 180 degrees and push it back into the socket. Some LED bulbs are polarized and will only work when the "+" positive and "-" negative electrical contacts are in the correct orientation.

Re-insert the wires into the opening in the headliner first.

Then gently pop in the light housing to secure the metal retaining clip.

To test the new light bulb, move the "On / Off" rocker switch to the "On" position.

Don't forget to write down the bulb change in your vehicle's service records.
