This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the 2nd generation (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019 model years) Kia Soul in changing a burnt out map light bulb in the overhead console (or upgrading both of them to brighter LED bulbs).

Owners of other Kia, Hyundai or Genesis vehicles such as the Niro, Sportage, Sedona, Telluride, Sorento, Rio, Forte, Optima, K900, Cadenza, Stinger, Tucson, Santa Fe, Kona, Palisade, Elantra, Sonata, Accent, Veloster, Ioniq, Nexo, Venue, G70, G80 and G90 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement festoon style light bulb is part number DE3175.

If you would like to have brighter map lights, install some DE3175 LED bulbs.

The only tool needed to access and replace the bulbs is a small flat head screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool.

To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, I recommend either covering the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or instead use a small plastic pry bar tool.

Insert the blade of the screwdriver between the lens cover and the overhead housing near one of the front corners (closest to the windshield).

Gently pry out the lens cover to release the two "C" shaped retaining clips from their mounting pegs.

You may need to re-insert the screwdriver at the other front corner to release both "C" shaped clips.

Try to avoid using excessive force, the lens cover should pop out relatively easily.

Do not pry at the rear edge of the lens cover (closer to the back of the vehicle).

There are two plastic tabs on the rear edge of the lens cover that could break if you pry at that area.

Set the lens cover aside in a safe place.

If the old light bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it.

The old bulb might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Carefully pull out the old light bulb.

If necessary, use the flat head screwdriver to carefully and gently pry out the bulb at one of the metal end caps.

Do NOT apply pressure to center of the bulb to prevent from having the glass shatter.

The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) bulb in this 2019 Soul was marked as part number KHA12V8W (48E17G).

Re-Insert Tabs - Rear
Push a new number DE3175 bulb straight into the socket.

If you would like to have brighter map lights, install some compatible replacement DE3175 LED bulbs.

I recommend testing the new bulb before re-installing the lens cover.

Push in the clear plastic "On / Off" button to test the new light bulb.

Tip - If you installed an LED bulb and it doesn't work, try removing it from the socket, rotating it 180 degrees and pushing it back into the socket. Some LED bulbs are polarized and will only work when the "+" positive and "-" negative electrical contacts are in the correct orientation.

Then swing the front edge of the lens cover back into place.

Double check that the lens cover is securely attached.

To test the new map light bulbs, press on the rear edge of the lens cover to activate the "On / Off" switches.

Be sure to write down the bulb change in your vehicle's service records.
