Toyota Highlander Cargo Area Light Bulb Replacement Guide
How to change a burnt out cargo area light bulb in a third generation 2014 to 2018 Toyota Highlander SUV.

Insert Flathead Screwdriver
This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 plus maybe also the 2019 and 2020 model years) Toyota Highlander SUV in changing a burnt out cargo area light bulb.

Owners of other Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles such as the 4Runner, Avalon, 86, C-HR, Camry, Corolla, iM, Land Cruiser, Mirai, Prius, RAV4, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, Yaris, FR-S, xB,  xD, tC, xA, CT 200h, ES 250, ES 300, ES 330, ES 350, IS 250, IS 350, RX 300, GS 250, NX 300 and RX 350.

The compatible replacement miniature wedge base light bulb part number is 2825 (also known as # W5W).

You could also install a brighter 2825 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulb is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool.

Pry Out Light Housing

Push In Release Tab
To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you can either cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or instead use a small plastic pry bar tool.

Insert the blade of the screwdriver into the small notch at the front edge of the lens cover.

Gently pry out the light housing and remove it from the plastic cargo area interior panel.

Disconnect Power Plug

Pull Off Back Cover
Push in the release tab on the white plastic electrical connector before pulling it straight out of the socket.

Gently pull off the grey plastic rear cover from the back of the light housing.

Set the rear cover aside in a safe place.

Pull Out Old Light Bulb
If the old light bulb was recently turned on, it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers. Be careful when you remove the old light bulb.

Pull the old light bulb straight out of the socket.

Push In New Light Bulb
The old light bulb was marked as part number Toshiba 12V5W I6X W5W (E2 2J6) which is the same as a number 2825 bulb.

Push a new number 2825 bulb straight into the socket.

If you would like to have a brighter cargo area light, install some compatible replacement 2825 LED light bulbs.

Push In Electrical Connector
Slide the grey plastic rear cover back into place over the light housing.

Push the power plug straight into its socket until it clicks securely into place.

Re-Insert Wires First

Pop In Retaining Clip
First, re-insert the wires and the rear edge of the light housing back into the cargo area panel.

Then gently snap in the retaining clip on the front edge of the light housing back into place.

Test New Light Bulb
To test the new cargo area light bulb, flip the rocker "On / Off" switch up to the "On" position.

Be sure to record the bulb change in your vehicle's service records.
