Sentra.

This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the seventh generation (2013, 2014, 2015 and maybe also
the updated 2016 and 2017 model years) Nissan Sentra sedan in
changing a burnt out rear turn signal or reverse light bulb in the
tail light housings. Owners of other Nissan or Infiniti vehicles such as the Versa, Maxima, Juke, Rogue, Altima, Xterra, Pathfinder, Murano, Cube, Armada, Leaf, Quest, Frontier, Teana, 370Z, GT-R, Titan, G25, G37, M35, QX56, QX60 and M37 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The brake lights are LED bulbs that should last for the life time of the vehicle. The replacement light bulb part numbers are as follows: Rear Turn Signal # WY21W (or 7440A and 7440NA) and Reverse Light # 921. The tools needed to complete this procedure include a flathead screwdriver, a 10mm socket and a 1/4" drive ratchet. |

Remove Pop Rivet Fastener |
Trunk Carpet Liner |
Pull Back To Access Housing |
The first two steps
are to open the trunk lid and then move to the side of the car with the
burnt out tail light bulb. Locate the black plastic pop rivet fastener on the grey carpeted trunk liner. Gently pry up the center part of the fastener before pulling out the base of the fastener. Pull back the trunk liner to access the tail light housing fasteners. |
||
Two Tail Light Nuts |
Pull Off Wire Harness |
Loosen Counterclockwise |
Pull the black
plastic mount for the wiring harness off the lower bolt end. Loosen the two nuts that secure the tail light housing in place by turning them counterclockwise with a 10mm socket and a 1/4" drive ratcheting wrench. |
||
2nd 10mm Nut |
Two 10mm Nuts Removed |
Pull Off Tail Light Housing |
Set the two nuts
aside in a safe place. Gently pull the tail light assembly straight off the rear corner of the vehicle. |
||
Pry At Outer Edge |
Turn Over Tail Light |
1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
If you have trouble
removing the tail light housing, gently pry all along the outer edge to
release the friction fasteners. There is a slot on the outer edge that slides over the top of a plastic pop rivet. Plus there is a metal peg or "spike" that gets inserted in to a grommet on the car. Turn over the tail light housing to access the bulb sockets. |
||
Reverse Light Bulb Socket |
Pull Out Old 921 Bulb |
Push In New # 921 Bulb |
Rotate the small
black plastic reverse light bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before
pulling it straight out of the housing. Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new number 921 bulb. If you would like to have brighter reverse lights, install some compatible replacement 921 LED bulbs. |

||
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Turn Signal Bulb Socket |
Re-insert the
reverse bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to
secure it in place. Rotate the grey plastic rear turn signal bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. |
||
Pull Out Old 7440A |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Line Up Friction Fasteners |
Pull the old light
bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new amber colored number WY21W
(also 7440A or 7440NA). Re-insert the turn signal bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. Line up the slot and the metal peg on the rear of the housing with the pop rivet and the grommet on the rear corner of the car. |
||
Push On Tail Light Housing |
Spin On 10mm Nuts |
Tighten 10mm Clockwise |
Push the tail light
housing back in to place on the rear corner of the vehicle. Move to the inside of the trunk and spin on the two 10mm nuts in the clockwise direction. |
||
Tighten 2nd 10mm Nut |
Push On Wire Harness |
Push In Pop Rivet |
Tighten the two
10mm nuts in the clockwise direction until they are snug. Try to avoid over tightening the 10mm nuts to prevent from cracking the plastic tail light housing. Re-insert the white plastic pop rivet on the trunk lid carpet liner back in to the hole near the bumper. |
||
Replace Trunk Liner |
Pop In Black Plastic Fastener |
Test New Tail Light Bulbs |
Push the trunk
liner back in to place over the rear corner of the trunk. Make sure the center piece of the black plastic fastener is raised. Push the fastener back in to the trunk liner and pop in the center piece to secure it in place. To test the new tail light bulbs, have someone step on the brake pedal, activate the hazard signals and place the transmission in reverse. Be sure to record the bulb change in your vehicle's service records. For more,
