This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 Nissan Versa sedan in changing a burnt out cargo area light bulb in the housing attached to the "ceiling" of the trunk.

Owners of other Nissan vehicle such as the Sentra, Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue,  Note, Leaf, Juke, Kicks, Latio, Almera, Sunny, Qashqai, NV200, Pathfinder, Frontier and X-Trail may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement miniature wedge base light bulb part number is 158 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, Bosch, GE and Philips.

If you'd like to have a brighter cargo area light, install a 158 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulb is a small flat head screwdriver.

You could also use a plastic pry bar tool to open the dome cover.

Swing open the lens cover to expose the old light bulb.

If the old light bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it. The bulb might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Pull the old light bulb straight out of the socket.

Test New Light Bulb
Push the new number 158 (3.4W 12V) light bulb straight into the socket.

If you'd like to have a much brighter cargo area light that will also last much longer before burning out like the traditional incandescent bulb, install a compatible replacement 158 LED unit.

The new light bulb should turn on as soon as you push it into the socket.

If the new bulb doesn't turn on, try opening and closing the trunk lid or press the "Unlock" button on the key fob remote control to re-activate the interior lights.

Swing up the rounded dome lens cover and gently snap it back into place.

You should feel or hear the retaining clip "click" securely into place.

Tip - If you installed an LED bulb and it doesn't work, try removing it from the socket, rotate it 180 degrees and push it back into the socket. Some LED bulbs are "polarized" and only work when the "+" positive and "-" negative electrical contacts are in the correct orientation.

Don't forget to write down the bulb change in your car's service records.
