This automotive
maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second
generation 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 Nissan Versa
sedan in releasing the automatic transmission's shift lock mechanism in
order to change the gear selector from "Park" to "Neutral" and manually move
a disabled vehicle due to running out of gasoline, a dead 12V battery or
needing to be towed because of another mechanical or electrical issue. Owners of other Nissan vehicle such as the Sentra, Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, Note, Leaf, Juke, Kicks, Latio, Almera, Sunny, Qashqai, NV200, Pathfinder, Frontier and X-Trail may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The only tool needed to access and activate the automatic transmission's shift lock release button is a small flat head screwdriver such as from a jeweler's screwdriver set. Please be sure to activate the emergency / parking brake and place wheel chocks on both sides of the tires to help prevent the car from moving unexpectedly. Locate the small rounded plastic cover at the front part of the gear selector's trim ring near the "P" (Park). |
