This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the XV50 7th generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016) Toyota Camry in replacing a burnt out tail light bulb.

Owners of other Toyota, Scion or Lexus vehicles such as the Yaris, Corolla, Matrix, RAV4, Prius, Tacoma, Tundra, Sienna, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Avalon, 4Runner, Land Runner, Sequoia, IS 250, ES 350, GS 350, tC, xB, xD, iQ and FR-S may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

Replacement tail light bulbs with their part numbers are as follows: Brake # 7440, Turn Signal # 7440A or 7440NA, Rear Side Marker # 168 (W5W or 2825) and Reverse # 921.

The only tool needed to replace any of the bulbs is a small flat head screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool.

Plastic Fastener Removed
Cargo Net Hook
Press Button In Center
The first two steps are to open the trunk and move to the side of the vehicle with the burnt out tail light bulb.

Then locate the two fasteners at the rear corner of the trunk that secure the carpet liner in place.

To remove the upper round black plastic fastener, first pry out the center piece with the flathead screwdriver and then remove the entire fastener.

Remove the lower cargo net hook fastener by first pushing in the circular button and then pull out the entire piece.

Pull Aside Trunk Carpet
Brake Light Bulb Socket
Once the two fasteners have been removed, you can pull the trunk carpeting back to reveal the three tail light bulb sockets.

The brake or "stop" lamp socket is located at the bottom of the tail light, the turn signal is just above it and the small rear side marker socket is at the outer edge of the housing.

Pull the old turn signal bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new amber colored # 7440A or 7440NA bulb.

If you plan on keeping your Camry for a very long time, I'd recommend buying Sylvania 7440A "LL" (Long Life) bulbs.

Re-insert the turn signal bulb in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in place.

Rear Side Marker Socket
Pull Out Old # 168 / W5W

Re-insert the side marker socket back in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place.

Fasteners On Trunk Lid
Test the new tail light bulbs by having someone step on the brake pedal and activate the hazard signals.

The reverse light bulb is located within a separate housing on the trunk lid.

Locate the two round black plastic pop rivet fasteners on the underside of the trunk lid that holds the carpet liner in place.

Pry Out Center of Fastener
Remove Plastic Pop Rivet
Pull Back Trunk Lid Liner
Pry out the center part of the fastener first before pulling out the entire piece.

Once you have removed both fasteners, pull back the trunk lid carpet liner to access the reverse bulb socket.
