This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the 10th generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013) Toyota Corolla in changing a burnt out overhead map light bulb or upgrading them both to brighter LED units.

Owners of other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles such as the Yaris, Matrix, Prius, Camry, RAV4, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Avalon, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, IS 250, ES 350, GS 350, tC, xB, xD, iQ and FR-S may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement map light bulb is part # 168 from manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, PIAA, Putco and Eiko. You may also use any other miniature wedge base bulb such as the 158, 194, W5W, 2825 or 2827.

The # 168 (5W) and 194 (4 watts) bulbs are the easiest to find online at Amazon.

You could also install some brighter 168 LED bulbs.

The only tool needed to access the map light bulbs is a small flat head screwdriver.

Carefully insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in between the translucent map light lens cover and the overhead console. Gently pry out the lens cover and set it aside in a safe place.

To help prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to wrap the blade of the screwdriver in a thin micro fiber cloth.

Grasp the old bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket.

Although the Sylvania Lamp Replacement Guide lists bulb # 175 for the 09-13 Corolla map light, that part number seems to be very difficult to find online or in stores.

I'd recommend replacing it with one of the mini wedge base bulbs that are much easier to find such as # 168, 194 or 2825.

They are commonly available for purchase in stores such as Wal-Mart, Pep Boys, Advance Auto Parts, Auto Zone, Napa Auto Parts or online at Amazon.

You could also install some brighter and longer lasting 168 LED bulbs.

Push a new bulb straight in to the socket and press the white "On/Off" button to test it.

Line up the lens cover and gently snap it back in to place.

Test the new map light bulb again by pressing on the outer edge of the lens cover to activate the "On/Off" switch.

Be sure to record the bulb change in your vehicle's service records.
