This
automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners
of the 4th generation 2007 to 2012 Nissan Altima sedan in
replacing a burnt out third brake light bulb, also known as the
"high mount stop light". Owners of other Nissan or Infiniti sedans such as the Sentra, Maxima, G25, G35, G37, M35, M37, M56 may also find this guide to be helpful. A replacement third brake light bulb for the 2007-2012 Nissan Altima is part # 921 from Sylvania and other auto parts manufacturers. Also available are the brighter 921ST SilverStar bulb, the 921LL "long life" bulb and a 921 LED bulb. The only tool needed to replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver. Be sure that the vehicle's ignition switch is set to "OFF" before proceeding. |

Gently Pry Up Housing |
Lift Up Bulb Housing |
|
Move to the rear seats of the vehicle and use the small flathead screwdriver to carefully pry up the closest edge of the third brake light bulb housing. | ||
1/4 Turn Counter Clockwise |
Old # 921 Stop Light Bulb |
|
Turn the white base
of the light bulb socket 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull it straight out
of the housing.
Remove the old bulb by pulling it straight out from the socket. If you have trouble removing the bulb, try gently wiggling it while pulling. |
||
|
||
Pull Out Old Bulb |
Re-Install Housing |
|
Push in a new #
921
light bulb into the socket, re-insert the socket into the housing, and
rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. If you would like to have a brighter 3rd brake light, install a compatible replacement 921 LED bulb. |
||
Test New Light Bulb |
||
Slide the 3rd brake
light bulb housing towards the rear window with the far end at a slight
downward angle. Then gently pop the plastic tab on the closer side down into
the rear deck. Test the new brake light bulb by having someone step on the brake pedal. If it doesn't work, try
installing a different new light bulb and/or check the brake light fuse. |
