This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008) Honda Pilot SUV in changing a burnt out map light bulb in the overhead console.

Owners of other Honda or Acura vehicles such as the Accord, Civic, Crosstour, CR-V, CR-Z, Fit, Insight, Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline, ILX, TSX, TLX, TL, RLX, RDX, NSX and MDX may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A compatible replacement "festoon" style light bulb is part number DE3175, which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Philips and Eiko.

You can also choose to install a brighter LED bulb.

The only tool needed to access and replace the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic trim removal tool.

To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, I recommend either covering your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or use a plastic trim panel removal tool.

Insert the blade of the flathead screwdriver in between the inner edge of the lens cover and the overhead console.

Gently pry out the inner edge of the lens cover.

Try to avoid using excessive force. The lens cover should pop out relatively easily.

Remove the lens cover and set it aside in a safe place.

If the old light bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it since it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers. (The OEM bulb was marked as a Toshiba A12V8W.)

Re-Insert Outer Edge

Push a new number DE3175 festoon bulb straight in to the socket.

You can also use a compatible LED bulb.

Tip - If you are installing an LED bulb and it doesn't work at first, try flipping it around in the socket.

Line up the lens cover and re-insert the outer edge first.
