This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008) Honda Pilot SUV in changing a burnt out courtesy step light bulb located at the bottom of the plastic interior door panel.

Owners of other Honda or Acura vehicles such as the Accord, Civic, Crosstour, CR-V, CR-Z, Fit, Insight, Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline, ILX, TSX, TLX, TL, RLX, RDX, NSX and MDX may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement miniature wedge base light bulb part number is 194, which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Maxell, PIAA and Eiko.

You can also use a brighter 194 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to access and replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic trim panel removal tool.

To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, either cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or instead use a plastic trim panel removal tool.

Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in to the notch on the bottom edge of the lens cover.

Gently pry out the lens cover and set it aside in a safe place.

If the old light bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove since it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Grasp the old light bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket.
