The 2009 New
Times Original Beerfest was held at Esplanade Park in the Downtown
Himmarshee area of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Event hosts Paul & Young Ron from the BIG 105.9 radio station welcomed beer lovers to the festival from 7 PM to 11 PM on Saturday April 18th, 2009. General admission tickets into the New Times Beerfest were $20 in advance or $25 at the event's main entrance. A limited number of VIP tickets for $50 were available. VIPs gained entrance into the Crown Wine & Spirits VIP Lounge featuring top shelf spirits, beer samples and food. We arrived at the beer festival at around 8 PM, 1 hour after the opening, and there were already thousands of people lined up at the various tents dispensing about 150 different types of beer from across the world. |

While sipping on our samples of tasty beer, we enjoyed music from the reggae band Fourth Dimension and a Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute band named "Behind The Sun". A few of the other vendor tents included McDonald's, the Florida Cigar Company, Tootsie's Cabaret, the Coyote Ugly Saloon, Swisher Sweets, and the Round Up Country Western Club. After the beer festival, I learned that there was also a brewery contest taking place during the event. The winners of the 2009 New Time Original Beerfest brewery competition are the Gordon Biersch Hefeweizen for best beer, Presidente Lager for best booth, and Chang Beer won the "furtherest brewery" prize. | ||
