Little Talbot Island State Park is located about 25 miles northeast of downtown Jacksonville on an undeveloped barrier island.

One of the most popular attractions at the park are the five miles of white sandy beaches that are perfect for sunbathing, walking, running, picnicking, kayaking, beach volleyball, or other sports.

Visitors are welcome at the park from 8 AM to sunset every day of the year. The admission fees are $5 for a 2-8 person vehicle, $4 for a single occupant vehicle, and $2 for pedestrians or bicyclists.

To reach Little Talbot Island State Park, take Hwy 9A to 105 (Heckscher Dr. / A1A) and continue east for about 14 miles. The park should also be listed in the POI (points of interest) database of most GPS units.

Picnic Pavilions

Nature enthusiasts will love exploring the western side of Little Talbot Island and the various habitats such as maritime forests, salt marshes, and desert sand dunes. A few of the animals that can be seen on the island include native birds, marsh rabbits, gopher tortoise, snakes, bobcats, and river otters.

Unfortunately, swimming at Little Talbot Island is not recommended due to the abrupt bottom drop off a short distance from the beach and the strong water currents in the area.

Many visitors also enjoy fishing at Little Talbot Island since the waters just off the beach contain a variety of fish species such as mullet, sheepshead, striped bass, bluefish, flounder, black drum, trout and redfish.

Camping at the park costs $24 per night plus tax and includes running water and electricity. Florida residents 65 years old or older with a social security disability certificate can receive a half off discount on the camping fees.
