Old Maytag Filter |
If the
drinking water from your refrigerator dispenser has been started
tasting "funny", like chlorine or a bit metallic, you probably need
to replace the old filter.
You may have also noticed that the ice cubes have been changing the flavor of your favorite cold beverages or the drinking water dispenses out very slowly which might indicate a clogged filter. Many side-by-side refrigerators from Whirlpool including the Maytag, Jenn-Air, KitchenAid and Amana brands have a round filter installed above the top shelf of the refrigerated compartment. The old water and ice maker filter in this Jenn-Air model # JCD2389GES refrigerator was part number UKF7003. A few compatible replacement filters with their part numbers are as follows: Puritas PUR-15, PerfectPure PP1015, IcePure RFC1600A, Maytag UKF7003, EcoFresca EFW-UKF7003, AquaClear 515 and HDX FMM-1. |

Twist 1/4 Turn |
Rotating Counterclockwise |
Pull Down Old Filter |
Open the fridge
door and locate the round filter above the top shelf which resembles a large
can of soup with a rounded bottom. You may want to remove any refrigerated food items that you don't want to get wet. Gently rotate the old filter 1/4 turn counterclockwise ("lefty loosy") before pulling it straight down out of the receptacle. A small amount of water might leak out on to the shelf. Your old filter might have arrows pointing to the correct directions such as "<--- Remove" and "Install --->". |

Remove Plastic Cap & Wrap |
I purchased the
EcoFresca EFW-UKF7003 filter which
has been working very well the past few days. Our drinking water and ice
cubes taste great.
The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) Maytag UKF7003 filter is much more expensive but it has great reviews on Amazon. Another good inexpensive aftermarket option is the Puritas PUR-15 filter. Remove your new filter from the box, unwrap the plastic and pull off the plastic cap from the top. |

Write Installation Date |
Remove - Arrow - Install |
Line Up New Filter |
My new filter had a
blank area for writing the "Change Filter By" date. I prefer to write the
installation date so I can figure out how long the filter has been in use. Align the arrow that points up with the receptacle. |
||
Insert New Filter |
Rotate Clockwise - Lock |
Flush With Water - 5 Minutes |
Gently push the
filter up in to the receptacle.
You may need to slightly rotate the filter back and forth to insert it in to the housing. Rotate the new filter 1/4 turn clockwise ("righty-tighty") to secure it in place. To purge any air from the cold water lines and flush out any loosen carbon particles (tiny black specks), fill up a measuring cup or a water pitcher with water for at least a few minutes. |

Reset Filter Light |
Press Light & Lock Buttons |
Filter Timer Reset |
To reset the
"Change Filter" warning light, press and hold both the "Light" and "Lock"
buttons at the same time for a few seconds. The red light should have turned off. If not, repeat the procedure. On some models, the reset procedure is to press and hold the "Ice Type" button or to hold both the "Ice Type" button and the "Child Lock" button at the same time.
