This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the sixth generation 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and the revised or "face lifted"
2023 and 2024 Nissan Altima sedan in cleaning or changing the engine air
filter element for the PR25DD 2.5L I4. Owners of other Nissan, Infiniti or related Renault vehicles such as the Rogue, X-Trail, Note, Versa, Rogue Sport / Qashqai, Maxima, Sentra, Juke, Kicks, Murano, Pathfinder, Armada, Frontier, Titan, Quest, NV200, Q50, Q60, QX50, QX60 and QX80 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A few compatible replacement engine air filters with their part numbers are as follows: EcoGard XA11703, Purolator A31489, K&N 33-509 and Fram CA12551. No tools are needed to access and replace the engine air filter. A wet/dry shop vacuum could be useful for cleaning out the bottom half of the air box or cleaning the old filter. The first two steps are to open the hood and then move to the driver (right) side of the engine bay. Locate the somewhat rectangular shaped engine air filter housing situated behind the driver side headlight assembly. |

box cover to expose the old filter. If you have trouble opening the air box cover, make sure the two plastic tabs have been released from the slots on the bottom half of the box. |

Slide Out Old Air Filter |
Inspect Both Sides |
Clean Out Bottom Half |
Slide the old air
filter out of the bottom half of the housing. Inspect both sides of the old filter. If the old filter is dark gray or black and clogged with dirt, dust, hair, pollen, soot, insects, sand and other debris, it should be replaced with a new element. If the old filter is relatively clean, just tap out the large debris and remove any fine dust with a wet/dry shop vacuum. Check the bottom half of the air box for any large debris and clean it out with the vacuum. |
||
Install New Air Filter |
Slide Tabs Into Slots |
Flip Up Retaining Clips |
Install the new air
filter into the bottom half of the air box. Due to the shape of the filter, it can only be inserted in the correct orientation. Lower the air box cover and slide the two tabs on the rear edge into the slots on the bottom half of the housing. |

Swing up the two
metal latches and snap them back into place over the air box cover. Make sure that the two halves of the air box are flush together at every edge with no parts of the new filter visible. According to the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual the service interval for the engine air filter is to replace it every 30,000 miles (48,000 km) or at least every 36 months. Please
