This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the NMS (new midsize sedan) 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and the
revised 2016 Volkswagen Passat sedan in changing a burnt out cargo
area light bulb located in the trunk. Owners of other VW Group vehicles such as the Beetle, CC, Tiguan, Golf, Touareg, Jetta, GTI, SportWagen, Eos, Rabbit, Bora, Vento, Lavida, Coccinelle, Maggiolino, Fusca, Audi A3, A4, S4, A6, S6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7, A5, S5, and TT may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement miniature wedge base bulb is part number 2825. You can also use a brighter 2825 LED bulb. The only tool needed to access and replace the trunk light bulb is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool. |

The first two steps
are to open the trunk lid and then move to the right (passenger) side of the
trunk. Use a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool to pry out the top edge of the cargo area light housing. Press the release tab on the electrical connector before sliding the plug straight out of the socket. Use the screwdriver to gently pry off the silver metal rear cover on the housing. |

Push Bulb Out of Socket |
Old Light Bulb Removed |
Push In New 2825 Bulb |
Carefully push the
base of the old bulb out of the socket with the flathead screwdriver. Push a new number 2825 bulb straight in to the socket. You can also use a brighter LED unit. |

Replace Cover & Plug |
Re-Insert Light Housing |
Test New Trunk Light Bulb |
Snap the metal
cover back in to place over the back of the light housing. Re-insert the wires in to the bottom of the opening in the trunk liner. Gently pop in the top of the light housing. If the light didn't turn on immediately when you re-inserted the electrical connector, press the "Unlock" button on the key fob to activate the interior lights or open and close the trunk.
