Transmission Fluid Drain Bolt - Closer To Front of Engine Bay / Engine Oil Drain Bolt - Closer To Rear of Car

This image shows the location of the transmission fluid pan and the transmission oil drain bolt.

The engine oil pan is located further back and has a rounded bottom just above the engine oil drain bolt.

Do NOT remove the transmission oil drain bolt!

If your Subaru has recently been to a dealership for an engine oil change,
the engine oil drain bolt should now be a 17mm bolt. The original bolt was
a 14mm bolt just like the 14mm drain bolt on the transmission fluid pan.

A TSB (technical service bulletin) instructed the service departments to
upgrade the original 14mm engine oil drain bolt to a larger 17mm bolt
which is less likely to strip.
