An old college
buddy of mine was kind enough to take me for a spin in his Shelby AC
Cobra 427 replica kit car. This Shelby Cobra kit car is equipped with a Ford 5.0 Liter V8 engine and the faithfully reproduced looks of the 1960's era roadster created by Carroll Shelby. The first Shelby Cobra Mark I roadsters were built in 1962 with a British made body from AC Cars, and a Ford 260 HiPo 4.2L V8 Small Block engine. Later on Ford installed a larger Windsor 4.7L V8 engine into the 1963 Shelby Cobra Mark II. In 1965 the Shelby Cobra received a suspension redesign and a larger Ford 427 7.0 Liter engine. This new Cobra version was called the Mark III. For the European market, AC Cars put the lower cost Ford 428 7.0L engine into the AC Cobra MKIII. |

In 1967, Carroll Shelby had to stop the production of the Shelby Cobra Mark III roadsters, but he did continue on to be part of the creative process for the Shelby Mustang, the GTO, and the Dodge Charger. |
