This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the eighth generation (2016, 2017, 2018 and probably also
the 2019 & 2020 model years) Nissan Maxima sports sedan in changing
a dead battery in the intelligent or "smart" proximity key fob
remote control for the keyless entry system.
Owners of other Nissan or Infiniti vehicles such as the Versa, Altima, Juke, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Murano, Xterra, Pathfinder, Sentra, Cube, Armada, Leaf, Quest, Frontier, 370Z, GT-R, Titan, Kicks, NV, NV200, G25, G37, M35 and M37 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement "coin" (also known as a "watch" or "button") type battery is part number CR2032 which are available at Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreens or online at Amazon. The only tool needed to access and replace the old battery is a small flathead screwdriver. |

Release Metal Ignition Key |

Pry Apart Two Halves |
The first step is
to turn over the key fob and locate the small black plastic switch or
"button" located close to the key ring loop.
Slide the switch to release the emergency / backup metal ignition key that can be used to open the car door or start the engine just in case your key fob battery is too weak. Set the metal ignition key aside in a safe place. Carefully Insert a small flathead screwdriver into one of the two small notches between the two halves of the fob near where the metal ignition key used to reside. Very gently pry apart the two halves. Try to avoid using excessive force. The front and rear halves of the fob should "pop" apart relatively easily. |

Slide the emergency
/ backup metal ignition key back into the slot on the back side of the fob. To test the new battery, stand near your car and press the "Unlock" or "Lock" buttons. If the new battery is working properly, you should see the parking lights flash, hear the door locks opening or closing and possibly also hear the horn honk depending on your settings. Please
