This automotive
maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first
generation (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 & 2020) Infiniti QX60
luxury SUV in taking off the plastic interior door panels in order to
upgrade the OEM speakers, add soundproofing material, fix a faulty
electrical switch or change a broken power window motor. Owners of other Infiniti and Nissan vehicles such as the JX35, Q50, Q60, QX30, QX50, QX80, Pathfinder, Murano, Rogue, Armada, Kicks, Frontier, Titan, NV, NV200, 370Z, GT-R, Leaf, Maxima, Altima, Sentra and Versa might also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The tools needed to take off the door panels include a plastic pry bar tool, a small flat head screwdriver, a Phillips head screwdriver or a 10mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet. The OEM front door speakers are held in place by four bolts that can be removed with either a Phillips head screwdriver or a 10mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet. The first few steps are to lower the power window and fully open the door. Pry out the small trim piece located behind the chrome silver door opener handle with a small flat head screwdriver. Set the trim piece aside in a safe place. |

Loosen Counterclockwise |
Then move to the
door pull handle / storage well in the armrest.
Pry out the plastic cover on the back side of the well with the small flat head screwdriver. Set the cover aside in a safe place. Remove the bolt located behind the door opener handle by turning it in the counterclockwise with a 10mm socket attached to a short extension bar and a 1/4" drive ratchet. You could also use a Phillips head screwdriver. |

Loosen Two Bolts |
Turn Counterclockwise |
Set the bolt aside
with its corresponding plastic trim piece. Remove the two bolts in the center of the armrest by turning them in the counterclockwise direction with the 10mm socket, an extension bar and the 1/4" drive ratchet. (Again, you could also use a Phillips head screwdriver.) |

Pry Out Bottom Edge |
Release Pop Rivets |
Set the two bolts
aside with their corresponding plastic trim cover. Move to the bottom edge of the door panel. Insert the plastic pry bar tool or a large flat head screwdriver in between the bottom edge of the plastic door panel and the metal door frame. Firmly pull out the bottom edge of the door panel to release the white plastic pop rivets. Continue pulling out the friction fasteners all along the bottom edge and both sides of the door panel. |
||
Disconnect Step Light |
Lift Panel Off Frame |
Tilt Away Top Edge |
Locate the housing
for the courtesy step light bulb.
Push in the release tab on the white plastic electrical connector and slide it straight out of its socket. Lift the plastic door panel up and off the top of the metal door frame. Tilt the top edge of the door panel towards yourself to access the back side. |
||
Pull Out Plastic Collar |
Lift Bar Out of Socket |
Remove Black Collar |
There are two metal
cables that operate the door opener handle and the door lock rocker switch. The top cable operates the door lock rocker switch and the bottom cable operates the door opener handle. Pull the black plastic collar near the end of the upper cable out of its bracket. Swing the cable out away from the rear of the door panel and lift the metal bar out of its socket. Then pull the plastic collar on the lower cable out of the "C" shaped bracket. |

Metal Door Frame |
OEM Door Speaker |
Set the plastic
door panel aside in a safe place. The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) front door speaker is located at the front bottom corner of the metal door frame. |
||
Four Speaker Bolts |
Hold Panel Near Frame |
Push In Connector |
The speaker is held
in place by four screws that can be removed with a Phillips head screwdriver
or a 10mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet. The OEM front door speaker can be replaced with aftermarket speakers in the following sizes: 5 1/4", 6 1/2" and 6"x9". Some aftermarket speakers may require a mounting bracket or modifications to the door frame. I highly recommend applying some Dynamat sound deadener to the metal door frame and the back side of the plastic door panel to help stop any vibrations or rattles when you crank up the volume. To replace the plastic door panel, hold it near the metal door frame and tilt the top edge towards yourself. Slide the electrical connector for the switch panel straight into its socket. You should hear or feel the connector "click" securely into place. |
||
Lower Ball Into Socket |
Bar - Door Lock Cable |
Lower Bar Into Socket |
Lower the ball at
the end of the door opener handle cable into the bottom socket on the back
side of the door panel. Swing the cable towards the door panel and push the black plastic collar into the "C" shaped holder on the bracket. Lower the metal elbow bar on the end of the door lock rocker switch cable into the upper socket. Swing the cable towards the door panel and push the black plastic collar into its holder on the bracket. Double check that the two cables are securely attached before moving on to the next steps. |
||
Lower Panel On To Frame |
Connect Step Light |
Line Up Pop Rivets |
Carefully lower the
top of the plastic door panel on to the upper lip of the metal door frame. Don't forget to plug in the electrical connector for the courtesy step light housing. You should feel or hear the connector "click" securely into place. Line up the white plastic pop rivets on the back side of the door panel with their corresponding holes in the metal door frame. |
||
Firmly Tap In Fasteners |
Spin In Door Handle Bolt |
Tighten Bolt Clockwise |
Firmly tap in the
plastic pop rivets all along the bottom edge and both sides of the door
panel. Replace the bolt behind the door opener handle by tightening it in the clockwise direction with the 10mm socket, an extension bar and the 1/4" drive ratchet until it is snug. |
||
Replace Armrest Bolts |
Lower In Trim Cover |
Snap Cover In Place |
Replace the two
bolts in the armrest by turning them in the clockwise direction with the
10mm socket, an extension bar and the 1/4" drive ratchet until they are
snug. Try to avoid over tightening the bolts to prevent from cracking the plastic door panel. Lower in the plastic trim cover and snap it back into place. |
||
Push In Trim Piece |
Trim Piece Secured |
Door Panel Replaced |
Line up the trim
piece behind the door opener handle and pop it back into place. Close the door and verify that the door opener handle, door lock rocker switch, power window switch, power door lock switch and the speaker are all still working properly. Be sure to write down the speaker upgrade or any other procedure in your vehicle's service records. Please
