This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 & 2020) Infiniti QX60 luxury SUV in changing a weak or dead coin cell battery in the intelligent (also known as a "smart" or "proximity") key fob remote control for the keyless entry and push button start systems.

Owners of other Infiniti and Nissan vehicles such as the JX35, Q50, Q60, QX50, QX80, Pathfinder, Murano, Rogue, Armada, Kicks, Frontier, Titan, NV, NV200, 370Z, GT-R, Leaf, Maxima, Altima, Sentra and Versa might also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The OEM battery in the fob for this 2020 QX60 was a Maxell CR2032H.

The "H" in the CR2032H part number indicates a slightly higher capacity and discharge rate.

You should also be able to use the very common CR2032 coin cell battery, which is available from various manufacturers including Maxell, Panasonic, Sony, Duracell and Energizer.

The only tool needed to access and replace the battery is a small flat head screwdriver such as from a Jeweler's Screwdriver Set.

The first two steps are to turn over the fob and locate the small sliding release switch.

Insert Screwdriver
Slide the small switch out towards the edge of the fob.

If you look closely, there is a small arrow pointing in the correct direction to slide the switch.

While holding the switch in the released position, pull out the backup / emergency metal ignition key.

Set the ignition key aside in a safe place.

Insert the small flat head screwdriver into one of the two notches on the bottom edge of the fob where the metal ignition key used to reside.

Gently pry apart the two halves of the fob.

Pry Along Side Edge
You may need to remove the screwdriver and re-insert the blade into the other notch to separate the two halves of the fob assembly.

Continue gently prying apart the two halves along the sides.

Avoid using excessive force.

The fob should come apart relatively easily.

Old Battery Removed
Turn over the two halves of the fob to access the old battery.

The battery is attached to the holder on the rear cover of the fob.

Use the tip of the small flat head screwdriver to gently pry out the old battery from the socket.

"-" Negative Side Up
The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) coin cell battery in the fob for this 2020 QX60 was a Maxell CR2032H 3 volt.

There is a reminder printed on the back cover of the remote control housing indicating that the battery should be installed with the "-" negative side facing up towards you and the "+" positive side facing down into the socket.

Snap Together Fob
Orientate the new battery with the "+" positive side facing down and the "-" negative side facing up towards you.

Push the new CR2032H battery down into the socket.

If you can't find the higher capacity CR2032 H batteries, I assume that a CR2032 battery will work just as well but will need to be replaced a bit sooner.

Make sure that the new battery is fully seated in the holder.

Line up the two halves of the fob.

Gently pop together the front and rear of the fob assembly.

Test New Fob Battery
Make sure the two halves of the fob are flush together at every edge.

Slide the backup / emergency metal ignition key back into its slot.

You should hear or feel the ignition key "click" securely back into place.

To test the new battery, stand near your SUV and press the "Lock" or "Unlock" buttons.

If the new battery is working properly, you should see the parking lights flash and also hear the door locks opening or closing.

(You shouldn't have to re-program the key fob. Just changing the battery does not clear the original programming from the factory.)

Be sure to write down the battery change in your SUV's service records.
