Pry Out Plastic Trim Piece |
This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2017, 2018, 2019 and probably also the 2020 and 2021 model years) Chrysler Pacifica minivan in taking off the plastic interior front door panels in order to upgrade the OEM door speakers, add soundproofing material, fix a faulty electrical switch or replace a broken power window motor. Owners of other FCA (Fiat Chrysler America) vehicles from Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, RAM or Fiat such as the Town & Country, 300, 200, Charger, Challenger, Durango, Journey, Grand Caravan, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Compass, Renegade, Patriot, RAM 1500, RAM ProMaster City, Fiat 500 and Fiat 124 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The tools needed to remove the front door panels include a small flathead screwdriver, a 10mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet, a plastic pry bar tool and a pair of needle nose pliers. To remove the OEM door speaker or the power window motor, you'll need a Torx T30 star bit screwdriver. |

Pry Out Rubber Cover |
Armrest Well Bolt Cover |
The first two steps
are to lower the power window all the way down and fully open the door. Then use a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool to gently pry out the black plastic trim cover located behind the door opener handle and the door lock rocker switch. Set the trim cover aside in a safe place. Then pry out the rubber cover located at the bottom of the well in the door pull handle at the center of the armrest. Set the rubber cover aside in a safe place. |
||
Loosen Counterclockwise |
Door Handle Bolt Removed |
Remove Armrest Bolt |
Loosen the bolt
located behind the door opener handle and door lock rocker switch by turning
it in the counterclockwise direction with a 10mm socket, a short extension
bar and a 1/4" drive ratchet. Set the bolt aside with its plastic trim cover. Then remove the bolt at the bottom of the well in the middle of the armrest by turning it in the counterclockwise direction with the 10mm socket and a 1/4" drive ratchet. |

Insert Pry Bar Tool |
Set the armrest
bolt aside with its rubber cover. Insert a large flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool in between the bottom edge of the door panel and the metal door frame. |
||
Pull Out Pop Rivets |
Lift Door Panel Off Frame |
Pop Rivets - Top of Panel |
Firmly pull out the
bottom edge of the door panel to release the plastic pop rivet friction
fasteners. Continue pulling out the pop rivets along the bottom and both sides of the door panel. There are also a few pop rivets near the top edge of the door panel. Once you feel that you have released all of the pop rivets, gently lift the plastic door panel up and off the top of the metal door frame. Tilt the top edge of the door panel towards yourself and support the bottom with your legs. |
||
Stuck Pop Rivets In Frame |
Small Electrical Connector |
Slide Out White Lock Tab |
Locate the small
black plastic electrical connector. I believe this connector is for the rocker switch door lock actuator. Slide the white plastic locking tab out to unlock the connector. |
||
Push In Release Tab |
Green Power Plug |
Disconnect Power Plug |
Push in the release
tab before sliding the small black plastic electrical connector straight out
of its socket. Then locate the green plastic electrical connector on the underside of the switch panel. Push in the release button before sliding the green plastic power plug straight out of its socket. |
||
Door Lock Cable - Top |
Squeeze Two Prongs |
Pull Out White Collar |
The next steps are
to disconnect the two cables for the door lock rocker switch and the door
opener pull handle. The door lock rocker switch cable is located closer to the top of the door panel and it has a white plastic collar near the end of the cable. The door opener handle cable is located closer to the bottom of the door panel and it has a black plastic collar situated near the end of the cable. Use a pair of needle nose pliers to squeeze together the two white plastic prongs on the collar for the door lock cable. Pull the white plastic collar out of the bracket and swing the metal cable out away from the door panel. |
||
Lift Cylinder Out of Socket |
Squeeze Black Prongs |
Pull Out Black Collar |
Lift the metal
cylinder at the end of the cable out of its socket.
Avoid touching the metal cylinder since it is covered in a thick layer of lubricating grease. Repeat the process for the door opener handle cable. Squeeze the two black plastic prongs on the collar with the needle nose pliers. Slide the black plastic collar to the right and out of the bracket. Swing out the metal cable. |

Door Panel Removed |
Metal Door Frame |
Pull the metal
cylinder at the end of the cable out of its socket. Set the plastic door panel aside in a safe place. If any of the plastic pop rivets remained attached to the metal door frame, pull them out with a pop rivet removal tool or a flathead screwdriver. Re-attach any pop rivets that were stuck to the door frame to the back of the plastic door panel. The OEM front door speaker is located at the front bottom corner of the door frame. |

Remove Speaker Screws |
Four Screws Removed |
Pull Out OEM Speaker |
Remove the four
screws that secure the OEM door speaker in place by turning them in the
counterclockwise direction with a Torx
T30 star bit screwdriver. Set the four screws aside in a safe place. Carefully pull out the speaker and disconnect the power plug. The OEM door speakers can be replaced with aftermarket car speakers in the following sizes: 5 1/4" (5.25"), 6 1/2" (6.5") and 6"x9". I highly recommend applying some Dynamat sound deadener to the metal door frame and the back side of the plastic door panel to help your speakers sound their best. The sound deadening material will help suppress rattles and unwanted vibrations when you really crank up the volume. |
||
Disconnect Power Plug |
Power Window Motor |
Hold Panel Near Frame |
If you need to
replace a broken power window motor, the compatible replacement part number
is Mopar 68314760AA. To replace the plastic door panel, hold it near the door frame and tilt the top edge towards yourself. |
||
Door Lock Switch Cable |
Lower Cylinder In Socket |
Push In White Prongs |
The door locker
rocker switch cable with the white plastic collar will be attached to the
upper position on the bracket. Re-insert the metal cylinder at the end of the cable into the socket. Swing the cable towards the door panel. Slide the white plastic collar into the opening on the bracket until the two prongs "click" into place. |
||
Door Handle Cable |
Push In Black Prongs |
Switch Panel Plug |
Then replace the
door opener handle cable to the lower part of the bracket. Lower the metal cylinder at the end of the cable into its socket. Swing the cable towards the door panel. Push the black plastic collar into the opening on the bracket until the two black plastic prongs snap securely into place. Double check that both cables are secured before moving on to the next steps. You may also want to verify that the door opener handle operates smoothly and that the door lock rocker switch moves from locked to unlocked properly. |
||
Push In Electrical Connector |
Replace Small Power Plug |
Slide In White Lock Tab |
Push the green
plastic electrical connector straight into the socket on the underside of
the switch panel. Push the small black plastic power plug back into its socket. Slide the white plastic lock tab back into place to secure the electrical connector. |
||
Lower Door Panel on Frame |
Line Up Pop Rivets |
Firmly Tap In Fasteners |
Carefully lower the
plastic door panel on to the upper metal lip of the door frame. Look behind the door panel and make sure that the plastic pop rivet friction fasteners are lined up with their corresponding holes. Firmly tap in the pop rivets all along the bottom edge and both sides of the door panel. |
||
Tighten Armrest Bolt |
Replace Well Cover |
Replace Door Handle Bolt |
Replace the bolt
into the bottom of the door pull handle well near the center of the armrest. Tighten the bolt in the clockwise direction with the 10mm socket, a short extension bar and a 1/4" drive ratchet until it is snug. Lower the rubber cover back into the well. Replace the bolt behind the door opener handle by turning it in the clockwise direction with the 10mm socket, an extension bar and the 1/4" drive ratchet until is snug. Try to avoid over tightening the two bolts. |
||
Re-Insert Plastic Trim Piece |
Trim Cover Secured |
Door Panel Replaced |
Gently snap the
black plastic trim piece back into place behind the door opener handle. Sit inside the vehicle, close the door and verify that the door opener handle, door lock rocker switch, power window switch, speaker and power door lock switch all work properly. Be sure to record the speaker change or any repairs in your vehicle's service records. For more,
