Colorado Key Fob Battery Replacement Guide
How to change the battery in the key fob
remote control for a 2nd generation 2015 to 2022 GM Chevy Colorado truck.

| This automotive
maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second
generation (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 & 2022) GM Chevrolet Colorado truck in changing a weak or dead battery
in the key fob remote control for the keyless entry system.
Owners of other General Motors vehicles from Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Buick and Holden such as the Trax, Equinox, Traverse, Blazer, Tahoe, Suburban, Sonic, Cruze, Trailblazer, Spark, Malibu, Impala, Volt, Bolt, Corvette, Camaro, Silverado, Express, Regal, LaCrosse, Cascada, Encore, Enclave, Envision, Canyon, Sierra, Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, XT4, XT5, XT6, Escalade, CT5, CTS, XTS, CT6, ATS, Astra and Commodore may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement "coin" cell (also known as a "button" or "watch") battery is part number CR2032 which are available from various manufacturers including Panasonic, Energizer, Duracell, Sony and Maxell. The only tool needed to access and replace the key fob battery is a small flat head screwdriver such as from a jeweler's screwdriver kit or a small plastic pry bar tool. The first step is to turn over the fob so that you can view the back cover. An optional step is to separate the key ring and your other keys from the fob. Locate the small notch at the bottom of the rear cover (close to the key ring loop). |

 Gently Pry Out Battery |
| Insert the blade of
your flat head screwdriver or a small plastic pry bar tool into the notch. Gently pry off the rear cover. Try to avoid using excessive force. The cover should pop off relatively easily. Set the back cover aside in a safe place. |

| Use the small flat
head screwdriver to carefully pry the old battery out of the socket. Once again, try to avoid using excessive force. Make sure you don't damage the green circuit board or bend the electrical contacts. The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) battery in the fob for this 2019 Colorado LT was a Panasonic CR2032 3 volt lithium coin cell. |

| The new battery
should be installed with the positive "+" side facing up towards you and the
negative "-" side facing down towards the green circuit board. There is a battery part number and orientation guide printed on the case near the socket. |

| Push the new
CR2032 battery into the socket
with the positive "+" side facing up towards you. Make sure that it is fully seated in the holder. Line up the rear cover with the fob housing. |

 Test New Fob Battery |
| Gently snap the
cover back into place. Make sure that the back cover is flush with the rest of the fob at every edge. If you detached your key ring, ignition key and house keys, re-attach them to the fob. To test the new battery, stand near your truck and press the "Unlock" or "Lock" buttons. If the new battery is working properly, you should see the parking lights flash and also hear the door locks opening or closing. Be sure to record the battery change in your vehicle's service records. The key fob should not need to be re-programmed.
