Pry Out Lens Cover
This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the fourth generation (2017, 2018, 2019 and possibly also the revised 2020, 2021 and 2022) Kia Sportage SUV in changing a burnt out dome light (also known as the room lamp) located in the housing attached to the headliner above the second row of passenger seats.

Owners of other Kia, Hyundai and Genesis vehicles such as the Niro, Optima, Soul, Forte, Rio, Stinger, Cadenza, K900, Sorento, Telluride, Sedona, Kona, Santa Fe, Tucson, Elantra, Sonata, Accent, Veloster, Ioniq, Nexo, Palisade, G70, G80 and G90 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement festoon style light bulb part number is DE3175 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko and Maxell.

If you would like to have a bright dome light, install a DE3175 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulb is a small flathead screwdriver or a small plastic pry bar tool.

Locate the two small notches (cutout sections) on the front edge of the lens cover (located closest to the front of the car).

Insert the blade of your small flathead screwdriver or a small plastic pry bar tool into one of the two notches.

Gently pry out the lens cover.

You may need to re-insert the tool into the second notch and pry again.

Try to avoid using excessive force. The lens cover should pop out relatively easily.

Pull Out Old Light Bulb
Set the lens cover aside in a safe place.

Be careful when you remove the old light bulb. If it was recently turned on, the bulb might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Grasp the old light bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket.

If you have trouble removing a stubborn or stuck bulb, very carefully pry out one of the metal end caps with your screwdriver or pry bar tool.

Do not apply pressure to the glass center of the old bulb to prevent from having it shatter and send shards of glass flying into your face and eyes.

Push In New Light Bulb
The original OEM light bulb was marked as part number KHA12V10W 17E22.

Push a new number DE3175 festoon style light bulb straight into the socket.

If you would like to have a brighter dome light, install a compatible replacement DE3175 LED bulb.

Tip - If you install an LED bulb and it doesn't work at first, try removing it from the socket, rotating it 180 degrees and pushing it back into the socket. Some LED bulbs are polarized and will only work when the "+" positive and "-" negative electrical contacts are in the correct orientation.
