This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the fourth generation (2017, 2018, 2019 and possibly also the refreshed 2020, 2021 and 2022) Kia Sportage SUV in changing a burnt out cargo area (or "trunk") light bulb located near the tailgate door.

Owners of other Kia, Hyundai and Genesis vehicles such as the Niro, Optima, Soul, Forte, Rio, Stinger, Cadenza, K900, Sorento, Telluride, Sedona, Kona, Santa Fe, Tucson, Elantra, Sonata, Accent, Veloster, Ioniq, Nexo, Palisade, G70, G80 and G90 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement festoon style light bulb is part number DE3175.

If you would like to have a brighter cargo area light, install a DE3175 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to access and replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool.

Insert the blade of your screwdriver or plastic pry bar tool into the notch at the top edge of the light housing.

Gently pry out the light housing from the plastic cargo area interior panel.

Set the lens cover aside in a safe place.

Gently pry out the old light bulb from the socket.

Be careful when you remove the old light bulb. If it was recently turned on, it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

The original OEM festoon style light bulb was marked as part number KHA12V10W 17F12C.

First, re-insert the wires and bottom edge of the light housing into the cargo area interior panel.

Then snap in the retaining clip on the top edge to secure the housing in place.

If the new cargo area light bulb didn't turn on immediately when you pushed in the power plug, re-activate the interior lights by pressing the "Unlock" button on the key fob or close and open the tailgate door.

Be sure to record the bulb change in your vehicle's service records.
