This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the third generation (2016, 2017, 2018 plus the refreshed
2019 & 2020 model years) Hyundai Tucson SUV in checking or
changing a blown electrical fuse or a faulty relay in either the
engine bay or the interior passenger compartment electrical panels. Owners of other Hyundai, Kia and Genesis vehicles such as the Santa Fe, Kona, Elantra, Sonata, Accent, Veloster, Ioniq, Nexo, G80, G90, Stinger, Rio, Forte, Optima, Cadenza, K900, Soul, Niro, Sportage, Sorento and Sedona may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The 2018 Hyundai Tucson is equipped with the relatively new style of Micro2 Electrical Fuses. No additional tools are needed to access and replace any of the fuses or relays. There is a white plastic fuse puller tool included on the primary engine bay electrical block. |

Pull Off Fuse Box Cover |

Engine Bay Fuse Block |
The first two steps
are to open the hood and then move to the right (driver) side of the engine
bay. The square black plastic engine bay fuse box is located behind the 12V automotive battery and next to the engine air filter box. Push in the large tab on the front of the fuse box cover to release the retaining clip. Then push in the large tab on the rear of the fuse box cover to release the second retaining clip. Carefully pull the cover up and off the fuse box. Turn over the fuse box cover to view the fuse location diagram. There is also another diagram in your owner's manual. |

Pull Out Bottom of Cover |
The white plastic
fuse puller tool is located at the right rear corner of the engine bay
electrical block. Pull the fuse puller tool straight out of its socket. The interior passenger compartment electrical panel is located behind a square plastic cover on the lower left (driver) side of the dashboard. It it close to where the driver's left knee would reside while driving. Insert your fingers into the opening in the bottom of the cover and pull it straight out. |

Pull Out Old Fuse |
Old Fuse Removed |
Hold Up To Light - Check |
Squeeze the end of
the fuse puller tool to open the jaws. Place the jaws of the tool over the old fuse that you would like to check or change. Pull the old fuse straight out of its socket. To check the condition of the old fuse, hold it up to a light bulb. If the thin metal strip or "band" in the translucent plastic center of the old fuse appears to be burnt or broken, the old fuse is "blown" and will need to be replaced. The 2018 Tucson is equipped with the newer Micro2 Electrical Fuses. If the thin metal bar in the middle of the old fuse appears to be intact, it may still be good. Although since new fuses are so inexpensive, it should still be replaced as part of your electrical issue troubleshooting process. |
||
Push In New Fuse |
Re-Insert Tabs - Top Edge |
Pop In Bottom Edge |
Push a new fuse of
the same amperage rating (e.g. 5A, 10A, 15A, 20A, 30 amps) straight into the
socket. If you suspect that a relay is faulty, the simplest way to determine the condition of it is to just replace it with a new relay. You could also use a digital multimeter tool to test the old relay. Re-insert the two tabs on the top edge of the interior electrical panel access cover into their slots. Then gently snap in the retaining clips on the bottom edge. |

Replace Fuse Puller Tool |
Push On Fuse Box Cover |
Fuse Box Cover Secured |
Push the fuse
puller tool back into its holder on the primary electrical panel in the
engine bay. Lower the cover over the fuse box and push on it to secure the retaining clips. Double check that the fuse box cover is securely in place. Test the electrical component that you were having issues with such as the radio, horn, headlights, power driver's seat, power windows, tail lights, gauges, rear wiper motor, windshield wipers, etc. If you are still having the same electrical problem, there may be a shorted wire or the component itself needs to be replaced.
