How to change a burnt out fog light bulb
in the front bumper cover of a 1st generation 2003 to 2008 Honda Pilot SUV.

This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the first generation (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and
2008) Honda Pilot SUV in changing a burnt out fog light bulb in the
front bumper cover. Owners of other Honda or Acura vehicles such as the Accord, Civic, Crosstour, CR-V, CR-Z, Fit, Insight, Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline, ILX, TSX, TLX, TL, RLX, RDX, NSX and MDX may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement halogen fog light bulb part number is H11 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE and Philips. If you would like to have brighter fog lights, there are H11 LED bulbs available. The tools needed to complete this procedure include a 10mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet and a small flathead screwdriver. |

Pry Out Center of Fastener |
Remove Pop Rivet |
The easiest ways to
access the fog light bulb are from the bottom of the bumper cover or through
the wheel well liner. The 10mm bolt located directly below the fog light bulb housing on this 2006 Pilot was a bit rusted and difficult to remove. So I instead chose to remove the wheel well liner fasteners to reach the rear of the light housing. Look under the fog light housing and locate the 10mm bolt and the plastic pop rivet fasteners. Remove the bolt by turning it counterclockwise with a 10mm socket and a 1/4" drive ratchet. Pry up the center of the plastic pop rivet with the small flathead screwdriver to unlock it. Then pry out the base of the fastener and set it aside in a safe place. |
|
Remove 10mm Bolt |
Pull Back Wheel Well Liner |
There is another
10mm bolt located further back on the underside of the front bumper cover
closer to the tire. Remove the bolt by turning it in the clockwise direction and set it aside in a safe place. Gently pull back the wheel well liner (or the under bumper cover flap) to access the rear of the fog light housing. |
|
1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Disconnect Power Plug |
Rotate the base of
the old light bulb 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out
of the housing. Push the release tab on the electrical connector before sliding it straight off the base of the old light bulb. |

1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Replace Wheel Well Liner |
Try to avoid
touching the glass part of the new halogen light bulb with your fingers or
anything greasy in the engine bay. If you do get the new bulb dirty, wipe it clean with a rubbing alcohol moistened paper towel. Install the new number H11 light bulb in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. If you want brighter fog lights that will also last much longer, choose some compatible H11 LED bulbs. Push the electrical connector straight on to the base of the new light bulb until it clicks securely in to place. Push the wheel well liner or "splash guard" back in to place. |
