This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the third generation 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016
Toyota Yaris in changing a burnt out brake, rear turn signal or
reverse light bulb in the tail light housings. Owners of other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles such as the Corolla, Matrix, Prius, Camry, RAV4, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Avalon, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, IS 250, ES 350, GS 350, tC, xB, xD, iQ and FR-S may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement part numbers for the 2012, 2013 and 2014 model years are as follows: Brake # 7443, Rear Turn Signal (amber) # 7440A and Reverse # 921. The part numbers for the 2015 & 2016 model years are Brake # 7443, Rear Turn Signal # P21W or 7506 and Reverse # 921. The only tool needed to access and replace the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool. |

1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
The first two steps
are to open the tailgate door if you have a hatchback, or open the trunk lid
if you have a sedan and then move to the side of the vehicle with the burnt
out tail light bulb. Locate the small notch on the plastic access cover at the rear corner of the cargo area. Use a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool to gently remove the access cover. Set the access panel aside in a safe place. On this 2015 Yaris, the brake light bulb is located at the top of the housing and the rear turn signal is at the bottom of the housing. To remove the rear turn signal, rotate the grey plastic bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and then pull it out of the assembly. |

To access the brake light bulb, rotate the yellow / orange plastic socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. |
