This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the 2nd generation 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012 Jeep Liberty SUV in replacing a burnt out brake, rear turn signal or reverse light bulb in the tail light assemblies.

Owners of similar Jeep, Dodge or Chrysler vehicles such as the Cherokee, Compass, Patriot, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Grand Caravan, Nitro, Durango, Journey, and the Town & Country minivan may also find these instructions to be helpful.

Replacement tail light bulbs from Sylvania and other manufacturers are as follows with their part numbers: Brake (Stop) Lamp # 3157, Rear Turn Signal # 3757A (amber colored) and Reverse (Back Up) # 3157.

The tools needed to access the bulbs include a 10mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet and a Torx T-20 star bit screwdriver.

Pull Off Tail Light Assembly
The first two step are to open the cargo lift gate and move to the side of the vehicle with the burnt out tail light bulb or bulbs.

Remove the two screws on the side of the tail light assembly that were hidden by the lift gate using a 10mm socket and ratcheting wrench.

Gently pull the tail light assembly off the rear corner of the vehicle, turn it over and set it down on the bumper.

To protect the plastic tail light lens and painted bumper from being scratched, place a towel in between the two surfaces.

To access the three tail light bulbs, remove the two Torx T-20 star bit screws from the rear of the assembly.

Once the two T-20 screws have been removed, you can pull out the bracket that contains the three light bulbs.

To remove any of the bulbs from their sockets, just pull them straight out.

The brake light bulb is located at the top of the assembly, the amber colored turn signal bulb is located in the middle and the reverse light bulb is at the bottom of the tail light housing.

Their part numbers again are as follows: Brake # 3157, Rear Turn Signal # 3757A and Reverse # 3157.
