This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the 2nd generation 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012 Jeep Liberty in replacing a worn out coin cell battery in the key fob remote control for the keyless entry system.

Owners of other Jeep, Dodge or Chrysler vehicles such as the Cherokee, Compass, Patriot, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Grand Caravan, Nitro, Dart, Avenger, Challenger, Durango, Journey, Charger, Town & Country, 300, and 200 may also find these instructions to be helpful.

A replacement coin cell (AKA "button" or "watch") battery for the key fob is part # CR2032 from manufacturers including GE, Energizer, Duracell, Panasonic, Maxell and Sony.

The only tool needed to replace the battery is a small flathead screwdriver.

You can also use a coin or a butter knife.

Pry Out Old Battery
Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver into the notch at the corner of the key fob near the metal key blade.

Gently pry apart the two halves of the key fob and lift off the rubber piece that contains the buttons.

Try to avoid using excessive force. The two halves of the fob should pop apart relatively easily.

Use the flathead screwdriver to carefully pry out the old CR2032 3V battery from the back cover of the key fob.

Be careful to not damage the metal electrical contact points.
