This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the first generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and
2017) Hyundai Veloster in checking or changing a blown fuse or a
faulty relay in either the engine bay or the interior passenger
compartment electrical panels. Owners of other Hyundai or Kia vehicles such as the Elantra, Sonata, Azera, Santa Fe, Tucson, Accent, Ioniq, Genesis, Tiburon, ix20, i20, i30, i40, Veracruz, Optima, Cadenza, K900, Soul, Niro, Sportage, Sorento, Sedona, Rio, Forte and Spectra may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. This 2017 Veloster is equipped with the relatively newer style of "Low Profile" mini blade electrical fuses. Please check your car before purchasing new fuses. New fuses can be bought at any auto parts store, Walmart or online at Amazon. |

Push In Rear Release Tab |
Pull Off Fuse Box Cover |
|
The first two steps
are to open the hood and then move to the right side of the engine bay. The engine bay fuse and relay box is located on the right side of the engine bay next to the 12V automotive battery and behind the driver side headlight housing. Gently push in the release tab on the front edge of the fuse box cover. Then push in the release tab on the rear edge of the fuse box cover. Pull the cover straight off the top of the fuse box. |

|
Pinch the end of
the fuse puller tool to open the jaws. Place the jaws over the old fuse that you'd like to check or change. Pull the old fuse straight out of the socket. |

Old Fuse Removed |
Checking Old Fuse |
|
To check the old
fuse, hold it up to a light bulb. If the thin metal bar in the translucent plastic center of the old fuse appears to be broken or burnt, the old fuse is most likely "blown" and should be replaced with a new one. If the thin metal strip or "band" in the middle of the old fuse appears to be intact, the old fuse is most likely still good. Since new fuses are so inexpensive, it should still be replaced as part of your electrical issue troubleshooting process. |
||
Push In New Fuse |
Replace Fuse Puller Tool |
|
Push a new low profile mini blade fuse of the same amperage rating (e.g. 5A, 10A, 15A, 20A) straight in to the socket. | ||
Push On Fuse Box Cover |
Re-Insert Tabs - Top Edge |
|
Lower the cover
down over the engine bay fuse box and push on it to secure the two retaining
clips. Re-insert the two plastic tabs on the top edge of the interior fuse panel access cover. |
||
Replace Access Panel |
Electrical Fuses Replaced |
|
Then gently pop in
the lower part of the access cover to secure it in place. Test the electrical component that you were having problems with such as the horn, power windows, radio, headlights, tail lights, A/C system, wipers, fog lights, etc. If you are still having the same issue, there might be a shorted wire somewhere or you need to replace the electrical component itself.
