This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the second generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014
& 2015) Honda Pilot SUV in changing a burnt out license plate
light bulb in the tailgate door or upgrading both lights to brighter
LED bulbs. Owner's of other Honda or Acura vehicles such as the Odyssey, Insight, Ridgeline, CR-V, Fit, Civic, CR-Z, Crosstour, Accord, MDX, RDX, RLX, TL, TSX and ILX may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The replacement bulb part number is 2825 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, PIAA and Eiko. You can also use a brighter 2825 LED bulb. The only tool needed to access and replace the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool used to pry out the lens cover. |

Pull Out Old Light Bulb |
Carefully insert
the blade of your small flathead screwdriver in between the edge of the
license plate light bulb lens cover and the black plastic housing. Gently pry out lens cover and set it aside in a safe place. You may need to re-insert the screwdriver on the other side of the lens cover and pry again to remove it. Try to avoid using excessive force (especially in cold climates where plastic becomes brittle) to prevent from cracking the lens cover. Be careful when you remove the old bulb. If it was recently turned on, it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers. Pull the old bulb straight out the socket. |
