This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the fifth generation (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015) Ford
Explorer SUV in changing the front windshield window wiper blades. Owners of other Ford or Lincoln vehicles such as the Fusion, Mustang, Taurus, Escape, Edge, Flex, Expedition, F-150, Focus, C-MAX, MKC, MKZ, MKX, MKS, MKT and Navigator may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. Replacement wiper blades with their size in inches are as follows: Driver Side 26" and Passenger Side 22". A few compatible sets of replacement blades with their part numbers are as follows: Bosch 26OE & Bosch 22OE, Rain-X 5079281-1 & Rain-X 5079279-1, Trico 25-260 & Trico 25-220, Anco C-26-OE & Anco C-22-OE, Valeo 900267B & Valeo 900228B and Michelin 8526 & Michelin 8522. No tools are needed to change the windshield wiper blades. |

Two Release Tabs |
Pinch Together Two "Wings" |
Rotate Blade Away |
The first step is
to lift the wiper arm off the windshield until it stays in the raised
position by itself. Place a towel on the windshield to protect the glass from being shattered, chipped or cracked just in case the wiper arm smacks down on to the window while you are replacing the blade. Then rotate the old wiper blade away from the wiper arm at a slight angle to access the two retaining clips. Squeeze together the two "wing" shaped tabs to release the old wiper blade from the end of the arm. |

Pull Off Metal Hook At End |
Towel On Window |
Line Up Hook & Slot |
Rotate the wiper
blade away from the metal wiper arm. Lift the old wiper blade off the metal hook at the end of the wiper arm. I recommend buying the Bosch 26OE and Bosch 22OE wiper blades since they have excellent reviews on Amazon. Line up the slot at the top of the new wiper blade's mounting bracket with the metal hook at the end of the metal wiper arm. Insert the hook in to the slot and rotate the wiper blade towards the wiper arm. |

Rotate Blade Towards Arm |
Pinch Tabs & Insert |
Lower Arm To Glass |
Pinch together the
two "wing" shaped tabs and re-insert them in to the wiper arm. Check that the new wiper blade is securely attached to the wiper arm. Gently lower the wiper arm down to the windshield. For the best wiper performance, I recommend cleaning off the windshield and applying a window treatment product such as Rain-X or Zaino Glass Polish. For more, check out my other
