Toyota Corolla Headlight Bulbs Replacement Guide
How to change a burnt out low beam, high
beam or turn signal bulb in the headlights of a 2009-2013 Toyota Corolla.

This
automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners
of the 10th generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, & 2013) Toyota Corolla
in replacing a burnt out low beam, high beam, turn signal or front
side marker bulb in the headlight assemblies. Owners of other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles such as the Yaris, Matrix, Prius, Camry, RAV4, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Avalon, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, IS 250, ES 350, GS 350, tC, xB, xD, iQ and FR-S may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. Replacement bulbs with their part numbers are as follows: Low Beam # 9006, High Beam # 9005, Front Turn Signal / Parking Light # 3357A or 3457A and Front Side Marker # 168.No tools are needed to change the low beam or high beam. To access the front turn signal or side marker bulb, you'll need a small flat head screwdriver to remove the wheel well fasteners. |

The first two steps
are to pop open the hood and move to the side of the vehicle with the burnt
out bulb. The Low Beam bulb is located at the center of the headlight assembly. Reach in behind the headlight assembly and rotate the light grey base of the low beam bulb 1/4 turn counter clockwise before pulling it straight out. |

Press down on the power connector's release tab and slide it straight off the base of the old low beam bulb. | ||

High Beam - Inner Corner |
Push the power
connector on to the base of a new 9006
low beam bulb, insert it in to the
headlight assembly and rotate the base 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in
place. Try to avoid touching the glass part of the new halogen bulb with your fingers or anything greasy in the engine bay. If you do get the bulb dirty, wipe it clean with an alcohol moistened paper towel. |

The High Beam
bulb is located at the inner corner of the headlight housing closer to the
center line of the vehicle. Press down on the black plastic power connector's release tab and slide it straight off the base of the bulb. Reach in behind the headlight assembly and rotate the base of the high beam bulb 1/4 turn counter clockwise. Pull it straight out of the housing. |

Insert New 9005 Bulb |
Insert a new #
9005 high beam bulb in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it
in place. Try to avoid touching the glass part of the new halogen bulb with your fingers or anything greasy in the engine bay. If you do get the bulb dirty, wipe it clean with an alcohol moistened paper towel. Slide the black plastic power connector straight on to the base of the new bulb until it clicks in to place. |

Turn Wheel Opposite Side |
To access either
the front turn signal or front side marker bulbs, you'll first need to turn
the wheels all the way to the opposite direction of the burnt out bulb.
This will give you more room to work in the wheel well. |

Plastic Wheel Well Liner |
Loosen Fastener |
Center Piece Removed |
Remove the center piece of the lower plastic wheel well liner fastener with a flathead screwdriver and then pull out the larger outer piece. | ||
Remove Other Fastener |
Plastic Pop Rivet Removed |
Pull Back Splash Guard |
Remove the upper
wheel well fastener by prying up the center piece and then pull out the
entire fastener. Pull back the wheel well liner or "splash guard" to gain access to the sockets for the turn signal and sidemarker. |

Front Side Marker Socket |
The Turn Signal
bulb is contained within the light grey socket.
Reach in through the wheel well and rotate the socket 1/4 turn counter clockwise before pulling it straight out. Pull out the old bulb and push in a new amber colored # 3357A or 3457A bulb. Re-insert the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in place. (The preceding steps are not pictured.) The Front Side Marker light bulb is inside the small black socket located just to the side of the turn signal socket closer to the outside of the vehicle. |

Rotate
the side marker socket 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull it straight out
of the housing. Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new # 168 bulb. You may also use any other miniature wedge base bulb such as the # 194, 175, W5W, 2825, 2827 or a compatible 168 LED unit. Re-insert the side marker bulb socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

Test New Headlight Bulb(s) |
Push the wheel well
liner back in place behind the metal lip.
Re-insert the outer piece of the lower fastener first and then push in the center piece. Push in the upper fastener and pop in the center piece to secure it in place. Test the new bulbs by turning on the headlights, flashing the high beams and activating the hazard signals. Be sure to record the bulb change in your vehicle's service records.
