panels in a 1st generation 2010 to 2017 Volvo XC60 to upgrade the speakers.

This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017) Volvo XC60 SUV in taking off the plastic interior door panels in order to upgrade the OEM speakers, add soundproofing material, fix a faulty electrical switch or replace a broken power window motor. Owners of other Volvo vehicles such as the XC90, XC70, S90, S80, S60, S40, C30, C70, V90, V70, V60 and V40 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The tools needed to remove the door panel include a Torx T25 screwdriver and a plastic automotive pry bar tool. The OEM front door speaker is held in place by three Torx T25 screws. |

Gently Pry Off Sail Panel |
The first two steps
are to lower the power window all the way down and then open the door. Locate the two screws under the door pull handle in the center of the armrest. Remove the two screws by turning them counterclockwise with a Torx T25 star bit screwdriver. Set the two screws aside in a safe place. Move to the top inner corner of the door frame by the sail panel that contains the tweeter speaker and BLIS (blind spot information system) LED indicator light. |

Sail Panel Removed |
Disconnect Tweeter Speaker |
Use the plastic
automotive panel pry bar tool to
gently remove the sail panel. You may need to re-insert the pry bar at several locations to fully disengage the three metal friction fasteners that hold the sail panel in place. Push in the release tab on the grey plastic electrical connector for the tweeter speaker before pulling it straight out of its socket. |
||
Disconnect Blind Spot Light |
Pull Out Bottom Edge |
Disengage Snap Fasteners |
Push in the release
tab on the green plastic power plug for the BLIS light before disconnecting
it. Move to the bottom edge of the door panel. Insert the pry bar tool between the bottom edge of the door panel and the metal door frame. Firmly pull out the bottom edge of the door panel to disengage the snap together fasteners. |
||
Plastic Friction Fasteners |
Disconnect Courtesy Step Light |
Pull Out Top Edge |
Continue pulling
apart the snap together plastic connectors all long the bottom edge and both
sides of the door panel. Disconnect the green plastic power plug for the LED courtesy step light at the bottom of the panel. The top edge of the door panel is still held in place to the door frame by some metal tabs on the frame that are inserted in to plastic slots on the rear of the door panel. Carefully pull the top edge of the door panel away from the door frame. |

Disconnect Speaker Plug |
Three Speaker Screws |
Hold Panel Near Frame |
Push in the release
tab on the grey plastic power plug before disconnecting it from the speaker. Remove the three speaker screws by turning them counterclockwise with a Torx T-25 screwdriver. The OEM front door speakers can be replaced with aftermarket speakers in the following sizes: 5 1/4" (5.25"), 6 1/2" (6.5") and 6 3/4" (6.75"). I recommend applying some Dynamat Sound Deadener to the door panel to help your new speakers sound their best by stopping any rattles or vibrations when you crank up the volume. To replace the plastic door panel, hold it near the door frame and tilt the top edge towards yourself. |
