This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the first generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014,
2015, 2016 and 2017) Volkswagen Tiguan SUV in changing a burnt out
vanity mirror light bulb in the headliner housing above the sun
visor or upgrading both of them to
brighter LED units. Owners of other VW or Audi vehicles such as the Jetta, Passat, CC, Atlas, Touareg, Golf, Beetle, A3, S3, RS 3, A4, S4, A5, A6, S6, A7, S7, RS 7, A8, Q3, Q5, TT and Q7 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement festoon style light bulb is part number 6418. You can also use a brighter 6418 LED bulb. The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool. |

Remove Light Housing |
Pull Out Old Light Bulb |
To prevent from
scratching the plastic surfaces or tearing the fabric headliner, you may
choose to either cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber
cloth or instead use a small plastic automotive
trim panel removal tool. The procedure for accessing the vanity mirror light bulb on either the driver side or passenger side of the SUV are the same. Insert the blade of your screwdriver or pry bar tool in between the outer edge of the light housing and the headliner. Gently push in the metal retaining clip to release it and then pull the housing out of the headliner. If the old light bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it. It might still be hot enough to burn your fingers. |

Push In New Light Bulb |
Re-Insert Inner Edge |
Pop In Metal Retaining Clip |
Push a new number
6418 festoon light bulb straight into the socket. (The bulb is also known as part number 7546 or C5W.) If you would like to have brighter vanity lights, install some compatible 6418 LED bulbs. I recommend testing the new bulb before you re-install the light housing. Slide open the mirror cover to activate the "On" switch and test the new light bulb. If you installed an LED bulb and it doesn't work at first, try removing it and rotating it 180 degrees before pushing it back into the socket. Some LED bulbs are polarized and will only work when orientated in the correct position. First, re-insert the wires and the inner edge of the light housing into the opening in the headliner. Then gently snap in the metal retaining clip on the outer edge of the housing. |
