This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017) Volkswagen Tiguan SUV in checking or changing a blown fuse in either the engine bay or the interior passenger compartment electrical panels.

Owners of other VW or Audi vehicles such as the Jetta, Passat, CC, Atlas, Touareg, Golf, Beetle, A3, S3, RS 3, A4, S4, A5, A6, S6, A7, S7, RS 7, A8, Q3, Q5, TT and Q7 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.'

The Tiguan is equipped with both ATC fuses and the smaller standard ATM mini blade fuses which can be purchased at any auto parts store, Walmart or online at Amazon.

A white plastic fuse puller tool should be included on the back side of the driver side storage compartment drawer.

The first two steps are to open the hood and then move to the right (driver) side of the engine bay.

The engine bay fuse box is located to the right of the 12V automotive battery box and behind the engine air filter box.

Locate the two sliding switches on the top of the fuse box cover.

Slide the two switches forward to unlock the fasteners and release the air box cover.

Carefully lift off the fuse box cover and set it aside in a safe place.

Push In New ATC / ATO
To check the condition of the old fuse, hold it up to a light source.

If the thin metal bar or "band" in the translucent plastic center of the old fuse appears to be burnt and broken, the old fuse is most likely "blown" and should be replaced with a new fuse of the same amperage rating (e.g. 5A, 10A, 15A).

If the thin metal strip in the middle of the old fuse appears to be intact, the fuse might still be good. Since new fuses are so inexpensive, it should still be replaced as part of your electrical problem troubleshooting process.

Many Volkswagen models, including the Tiguan, are equipped with both the larger ATC / ATO fuses and also the smaller standard ATM mini blade fuses.

Push a new fuse of the same type and amperage rating straight into the socket.

Close Storage Drawer
Line up the two plastic hinges on the storage drawer with their mounting bars.

Firmly push the "C" shaped sockets on to the bars until they pop into place.

Replace the contents of the storage drawer and close it.

Test the electrical component that you were having a problem operating such as the radio, power windows, tail lights, horn, headlights, A/C system, interior lights, rear window wiper, etc.

If the same issue still persists, there might a shorted wire somewhere or the electrical component itself needs to be replaced.

Be sure to record the fuse change in your SUV's service records just in case it becomes a persistent problem.
