How to change a low beam, high beam, turn signal, side marker, DRL and parking light bulb in a 2011 to 2016 Jetta.

Black Plastic Dust Cap
This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the 6th generation MK6 (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016) Volkswagen Jetta in changing a burnt out low beam, high beam, turn signal, front side marker, daytime running lamp (DRL), or parking ("city light") bulb in the headlight housings.

Owners of other VW Group vehicles such as the Passat, CC, Tiguan, Golf, Touareg, Beetle, GTI, SportWagen, Eos, Rabbit, Bora, Vento, Lavida, Audi A3, A4, S4, A6, S6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7, A5, S5, and TT may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

Replacement bulbs with their part numbers are as follows: Low Beam # H7, High Beam # H7, Turn Signal # 7507 (A.K.A. 7507NA or "PY21W"), Daytime Running Lamp "DRL" # 7506 (A.K.A. 1156 or P21W), Side Marker # 2825 and Parking or "City Light" # 2825.

No tools are needed to access and replace any of the bulbs.

Base of Low Beam Bulb
Picture # 1 on this page is labeled with all of the bulb locations within the headlight assembly.

The Low Beam bulb is located near the center of the headlight housing next to the side marker.

Reach in behind the headlight and twist off the black plastic dust cover by rotating it 1/4 turn in the counter clockwise direction. Set the cover aside in a safe place.

Pull Out Old Low Beam

Pull Bulb Off Power Plug
Rotate the base of the old bulb 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull it straight out of the socket.

Pull the black plastic electrical connector off the rear of the old bulb.

Front Side Marker & DRL
Try to avoid touching the glass part of the new halogen H7 bulb with your fingers or anything greasy in the engine bay.

If you do get the bulb dirty, clean it off with an alcohol moistened paper towel.

The Front Side Marker and DRL bulbs are easier to access with the low beam dust cap removed.

Front Side Marker Socket

Pull Out Old # 2825 Bulb
Rotate the small black plastic side marker bulb socket 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull it straight out of the housing.

Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new # 2825 bulb.

If necessary, you may also use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 168, 158, 194, W5W or a brighter LED unit.

Re-insert the side marker socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place.

Push Plug On New Low Beam
The DRL (Daytime Running Lamp) bulb socket is located just below the low beam bulb.

Rotate the black plastic tab on the DRL bulb socket 1/4 turn counter clockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing.

Push down on the old DRL bulb and rotate it 1/4 turn counter clockwise before pulling it out of the socket.

Push a new # 7506 (A.K.A. # 1156 or "P21W") bulb down in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in place.

High Beam - Inner Corner
Push the electrical connector on to the base of the new H7 low beam bulb.

Insert the bulb in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place.

Replace the black plastic dust cap over the low beam by rotating it 1/4 turn clockwise.

The High Beam and Parking or "City Light" are located near the inner corner of the headlight housing.

Pull the rubber dust cap off the rear of the high beam bulb and set it aside in a safe place.

Osram H7 12V 55W
Rotate the base of the high beam bulb 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull it straight out of the socket.

Pull the black plastic power plug straight off the base of the old high beam bulb.

High Beam Bulb Socket
Push the electrical connector on to the base of a new # H7 high beam bulb.

Turn Signal At Bottom
Insert the new high beam bulb in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place.

Push the black rubber dust cap in place over the high beam bulb.

The front parking or "city light" is located next to the high beam bulb.

To replace it, rotate the small black plastic base of the socket 1/4 turn counter clockwise, pull out the old # 2825 bulb and push in a new one.

If necessary, you can also use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the number 168, 158, W5W, 194 or a compatible LED unit.

Re-insert the socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in place.

The Front Turn Signal bulb is located at the bottom inner corner of the headlight housing.

Rotate the large black plastic tab at the end of the socket 1/4 turn counter clockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing.

Push down on the old bulb and rotate it 1/4 turn counter clockwise before pulling it straight out of the socket.

Testing High Beam Bulb
Push a new amber colored # 7507 (A.K.A. 7507NA or "PY21W") bulb down in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in place.

Re-insert the socket in to the headlight housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place.

Test the new bulbs by turning on the headlights, activating the hazard signals and flashing the high beams.

Be sure to record the bulb change in your vehicle's service records.
