This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the third generation 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016
Toyota Yaris in changing a burnt out trunk or cargo area light bulb. Owners of other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles such as the Corolla, Matrix, Prius, Camry, RAV4, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Avalon, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, IS 250, ES 350, GS 350, tC, xB, xD, iQ and FR-S may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement festoon or "fuse" style light bulb is part number DE3022. You can also use a brighter DE3022 LED bulb. The only tool needed to access and replace the cargo area or trunk light bulb is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic automotive panel pry bar tool. |

Insert Hand In Opening |
Push Out Light Housing |
Press Release Tab |
The first two steps
are to open the tailgate door and then move to the left (driver) side of the
cargo area. Locate the notch on the rear edge of the tail light bulbs access panel. Use a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic automotive panel pry bar tool to gently remove the access cover. Set the access cover aside in a safe place. Carefully reach in and pop out the cargo area light bulb housing from the plastic panel. Try to avoid touching the rear of the light housing for too long since it might be hot enough to burn your fingers. For extra safety, I recommend wearing a glove. Press in the release tab on the white plastic electrical connector before sliding the power plug straight out of the socket. |

Pry Off Black Plastic Cover |
Rear Cover Removed |
Pull Back Electrical Contact |
Use the small
flathead screwdriver to pry the black plastic cover off the rear of the
light housing. Be careful when you remove the old light bulb. If it was recently turned on, it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers. Gently pull back one of the metal electrical contacts and remove the old bulb from the socket. |

Push In Power Plug |
Re-Insert Light Housing |
Push the rear cover
on to the light housing until it clicks securely in to place. Push the power plug back in to the socket on the light housing. Re-insert the light housing in to the cargo area panel and snap it back in to place. |

Test New Cargo Light |
Replace the tail
light bulbs access cover. The new cargo area light bulb should have turned on as soon as you re-inserted the power plug. If it didn't turn on, test the new light bulb by activating the interior lights by pressing the "Unlock" button on the key fob or by turning on the headlights. For more,
